Our School Council met again last week, with the Annual General Meeting preceding the monthly meeting. Below is a summary of what was discussed.
2018 School Council Election
Our Annual General Meeting was held and the following positions were elected.
President – Scott Pearson
Vice President – Tammy Burke
Treasurer – Julie Penfold
Assistant Treasurer – Vacant
Secretary – Dani MacDonald
A Special General Meeting will be held on May 15 where kids from the Junior School Council will be invited to present. Parents and community members will also be encouraged to attend.
Finance
Ideas were discussed regarding ways of capitalising on the hall as a revenue stream. These included the possibility of some minor works to entries/exits that will allow us to increase the capacity and improvements of facilities (such as the kitchen) within the hall.
Education
An Excursions and Camps Policy was presented and approved by Council. This can be viewed here – (DPS Excursions and Camps). One significant change is that School Council will no longer be required to approve most excursions.
An Inclusion Policy was also presented and approved and can be viewed here – (DPS Inclusion).
Community
The Colour Run was declared a major success. The Parent Fundraising Group are looking to include a third option into the Mini Mudder/Colour Run rotation. The use of the online fundraising system will be reviewed before next year’s event.
A list of fundraising targets that were drawn together from students, teachers and parents were presented. Some short-term targets were identified and $8000 of funds were approved to spend on:
- New seating around the Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 buildings
- Remarking of lines on the asphalt.
- An Inquiry Action Fund to allow for students to put their learnings into action.
- The creation of an annual fund for gardens that allows for the replanting of vegetables and annuals along with the maintenance of existing gardens.
- Equipment for the Shipping Container (which the Junior School Council will organise)
- Audio visual equipment for the Kids Matter Kids to produce better quality videos
The Junior School Council were approved to donate the monies raised on the casual dress day at the end of Term 1 to the Heart Kids Foundation.
Environment
The concept of the development of an Environmental Masterplan was discussed and we are very fortunate to have people in our community who are assisting with this process. More detailed information will be brought to the next meeting.
Principal
The Market was not held due to the dangerous windy conditions. Contingency plans were discussed as were the factors that could cancel markets in the future.
