Our 4-week House Indoor Soccer tournament culminated this week with our finals. This competition has been played at lunchtimes in the hall with a great deal of enthusiasm and house spirit.
The game has been played with modified rules to help encourage houses to have Year 5s and 6s playing together, as well as boys and girls on the same team. This has created some interesting problems, like not having enough girls on a team to start, which the House Captains have solved in creative and novel ways. One example is when Ashlyn from Year 3 was invited to play a game because they couldn’t find any other girl from Bengalat. Despite playing against Year 5s and 6s, she jumped at the chance and even got a few kicks!
The consolation final was played between Bengalat and Dan Dan Nook and it was Jamie from 6P who scored the all important goal despite some excellent defence from Madi 5H (who saved at least 5 goals), to break the deadlock and give Bengalat a 1-0 win.
The final was played between tournament favourites McLeod and the underdogs Davis who secured second place with an unexpected 8-1 win last week. In a tough and fair contest, Luke scored two goals and Lochie scored one to give McLeod a 3-0 win. At the other end, just about every Davis shot from Leisel 5H, Luke 6DS or Dakota 6P seemed to be blocked by Callum 5L who has been superb in defence all competition.
Our Soccer tournament followed on from our Basketball tournament, which was won by Dan Dan Nook late last term. Next up is House Netball and there are plans for two more sports before the end of the year.
