Desperate For Volunteers!!!!! Bunnings Sausage Sizzle – This Saturday 26th February

Help! Help! Help!

Our sausage sizzle fundraiser at Bunnings Leopold for our school is this Saturday February 26th between 8.00am – 4.30pm.

We are desperately seeking family volunteers from all year levels to fill in a spot for an hour, there is over 20 spots still to fill. Without parents and carers volunteering their time for such fundraising events, we are unable to run these events which significantly assists our school and provides funds to improve the school environment for all students.

Please use the online sign up sheet to volunteer an hour or two via the Bunnings Volunteer sign up form.

Partners are welcome.

Children under 18 are not permitted as per Bunnings protocols. Please support this great opportunity to raise funds for our school!

Drysdale Community Market

Last Sunday our school’s market was very busy with lots of stalls and people coming along to browse.

I would like to thank Jac Absolom, our market coordinator, for making the event happen and our school councilors, Rachel Scott and Miquel Trujillo, for their help with the set up.

COVID

The Premier has announced a further easing of restrictions this morning. These do not have a significant change for primary schools.

Children in Years 3 to 6 are still expected to wear a face mask. We have now had a delivery of face masks for any children who do not have their own.

Adults entering the school buildings need to be fully vaccinated. From February 25th fully vaccinated means the two original doses and the third booster dose.

We are waiting for further direction about activities such as whole school assemblies.

The AP WrAP

In what has been a very busy week, we have had some ‘Acting Principals’ who ‘cashed’ in some of their tokens at the end of 2021 supporting in the AP office. Will and Xavier spent time completing some principal admin tasks, handing out tokens and met with Mrs A and Miss Wojcik to discuss what needed to be done. Thanks for your help Will and Xavier.

Brody and Zave also took on this role and helped with distributing face masks, preparing SWPBS resources to be in all classes and helping with the end of the day announcements over the PA, to name a few tasks. It was certainly a busy afternoon for these ‘Acting Principals’ but their support was very much appreciated. Look out for more ‘Acting Prins’ in the next Link.

Mrs A has been working with the senior teachers in the Senior Space and we have some amazing teaching and learning happening in there. Students are becoming more familiar with the new model of learning and it is so great to see and hear students taking more ownership of how they learn and what they are learning through conversations with their Teachers and ES Support Staff.

Brekky Club started this week and it is so encouraging knowing we are supporting our students who may not have had access to brekky. We had some toasties, yoghurt and fresh fruit! A massive thanks to the businesses and the staff who support this.

A reminder from our P&FG, some of our families and staff will be down at the Bunnings BBQ this Saturday in Leopold. Come down to volunteer or grab a snag to support our school. If you would like to volunteer, see the post in this week’s Link to register.

Also attached is a flyer for a new Occupational Therapy and Wellness Hub. If you are trying to source an OT for your child/ren please take a look and consider this new business, as they are taking referrals.

Parents and Friends Group

The P&FG are holding ‘meet and greet’ sessions at school on Friday 25th February at 9.30am and Tuesday 1st Marsh at 3.00pm outside the canteen.

It’s a great opportunity to make some new friends and discover how you can be involved in helping at events within the school community. Many of our events rely on volunteers whether it’s in preparation of the event or on the day, without you we wouldn’t be able to have these fun activities for the children to enjoy.

We look forward to meeting you!

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club is back up and running for 2022. It has been great to see so many students popping past to get some breakfast before heading to class. If families are wanting to support this initiative this year there are a number of ways you can.

Firstly if by making a donation to Feed Me Bellarine – this is an organisation where so many of our breakfast supplies come from each week. They are run by volunteers and help to cook meals and provide much needed food to families all over the Bellarine Peninsula.

Another way is by donating to our Breakfast Club. Every couple of weeks we need to restock the fridge and pantry with our food, while much is donated from local businesses, we are open to your support too.

This week if you would like to support us, we are in need of Vegemite, Strawberry/Raspberry jam, brown paper bags and disposable spoons. If you would like to donate any of these items, please drop them by the school office this week.

Thank you for your support of our program this year.

Kate Wojcik and Kendra Kowalik – Breakfast Club leaders.

Sustainablility News

The year is off to a great start. We have started many programs and initiatives around the school to promote environmentally friendly and sustainable living.

Nude food
We are strongly encouraging all students to bring their food in containers that contain NO waste or wrappers. This will greatly reduce the rubbish in our school and unfortunately, sometimes in our school yard. Each week you can go into a draw to win great prizes just for bringing nude food each day.

School Yard Clean Up
We have also had a clean-up lunchtime that was run by some year 6 leaders, Heidi, Zara and Sienna. Thanks to these girls for supporting the lunchtime clean-up, and to all the students who took part in this and earned themselves a token.

School Garden
If you have any form of green thumbs and also have some time to spare, we are always looking for parent/carer helpers in the garden. Jobs would mainly include weeding and cleaning up the paths, so that our students can get into the garden and plant and pick the treasures that we grow. If you can assist with this please message or send your contact details to Bec Hoyne – Junior H teacher and she will make contact with you to arrange a time and have some jobs ready for you to do.

Organic Bins and Composting
This year we have a new bin system within each classroom.
As part of this we have organic food scrap bins, which we are using to reduce food waste and to start our own composting system to help in our school garden. However we need some donations to continue to running this program effectively. We can only use 100% compostable bags in this process. The correct bags we need can be purchased at Woolworths and can often be found on sale at various times. They must be the large 36L bag and must be 100% compostable. Please see the photos attached and when you are next shopping in your local supermarket, if you could get a packet and get your child to give it to their teacher it would be much appreciated.

Thanks for all your support and Happy Sustainability.

Please click on please see more for photos of the bin lines
