Drysdale Primary School

The Ap WrAP

Welcome to the first edition of the WrAP Up for 2022. We hope you all had a wonderful break! It has been so lovely to see so many smiling faces enjoying being back at school.

As always, if you need any further support throughout the year, we are both available. We will have a direct email for wellbeing support in the coming weeks but for the time being, please let us know if we can help in any way via the school email or by calling the school directly.

Students have been settling into their learning and class routines with our Start Right program and have been focusing and working hard to start to earn their tokens. We can’t wait to share with you more about SWPBS for 2022 and the rewards that students will be aiming to achieve by showing RAISE each and every day. We have a new matrix of expected behaviours.

You can find that attached, so you know exactly what staff are looking for in our students, inside, outside, in the community and all the time. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more SWPBS news and updates from around the school.

Welcome Back To School For 2022

I trust that everyone has had a relaxing holiday and is ready for the enjoyment of school in 2022. We are all hoping, once the current pandemic phase settles down, that 2022 will be a positive return to a more normal year of education.

It is great to see the children back in school and so settled already. We have welcomed a new group of Prep children who have made an excellent start to their school journey.

Thank you to their families for working with us and their children to make this transition smooth and successful.

COVID

Thank you for taking the time to read the information sent out at the end of last week and over the weekend. The most important thing for me to ask is that families follow the testing regime and keep in contact with the school.

I understand that it can seem difficult to let us know that your child has tested positive – there were four positives yesterday across Prep, Year 1 and Year 6. But open communication is how we will manage the risks.

When there are positive cases reported at school, other children in the same class are not automatically considered a close contact. We will advise other families in an affected class to monitor their children for symptoms and test if necessary.

If you or your child test positive, your family are considered household close contacts and must isolate for seven days. Children who are household close contacts must not attend school. Children who are showing symptoms, even if they have not tested positive, must not attend school.

School Council

At the beginning of each school year, we elect members of the School Council. Members hold their position for two years meaning that each year half the council positions fall vacant. This year the following council members are completing their current terms: Stephanie Davey, Gary Absolom, Sandra Jelowyi, Scott Pearson and Leanne Sharples.

I would like to acknowledge the great work that these council members have done in helping the school develop and grow over the last couple of very challenging years. I am very grateful to them for the perceptive and supportive discussions we have about the school and how we can collectively enable Drysdale Primary to be the best school possible for our community.

I am seeking nominations from parents/carers who are interested in joining our school council. Nomination forms are available from the school’s office.

Our school council meets twice each term (eight meetings in the year) starting at 6.30pm for a couple of hours. Each school council member also sits on one of our four committees which also meet once per month at times convenient to the members of the committee.

Parents/Carers who would like to know more about the role of school council member are most welcome to chat with me. I can often be found in the yard before and after school for anyone who wants an informal conversation. Alternatively I will respond to a message left at the office in person or by phone 52512272 or via e mail: philip.dunlop-moore@education.vic.gov.au .

Uniform

With the introduction of our new uniform there are some changes to our uniform policy. Uniform items available from our new supplier, Noone, are preferred and will be the only formal uniform option from January 2024.

For the next two years children who have uniform from our previous supplier can continue to wear this. Other acceptable uniform items are plain gold tops, brown pants or shorts.

Other items e.g. Hawks tops, other non-school sweatshirts, track pants or leggings items in other colours are not permitted.

Noone can supply items in a wider range of sizes as well as some items that were harder to source such as brown tights.

Jewellery

Children must not come to school wearing any jewellery other than stud earrings.

Necklaces, rings, hooped or dangling earrings, can become caught in fingers and clothes. This is a risk to the child wearing the jewellery as well as other children.

Breakfast Club

Our Breakfast Club will recommence in the coming weeks. Please stay tuned for the start date.

Our Breakfast Club supports students in our community that need a healthy start to the day with some breakfast. There are many students that have the opportunity to eat before they come to school but this Breakfast Club is for students who may not always have such opportunities.

Our school values attendance and engagement with learning and feel that offering some healthy foods to students will support them in starting their day well and being successful at school.

Breakfast Club is on Monday and  Friday mornings, from 8:30 – 8:55am, where students can have some fruit, toast or a toasted cheese sandwich before heading to class. Breakfast Club is located in the small kitchen in the Year 1-2 building.
