Drysdale Primary School

More Able Students Program

The Education Department has created a learning program for more able students and invited Drysdale Primary School to be a part of this. At this stage the Education Department has identified some of our students who meet their criteria.

I would like to acknowledge the work of the staff at Drysdale Primary who have been focused on ensuring all children make the progress of which they are capable. It is a big part of our school philosophy to do this for both for children who are below state expectations and those who are above.

Generically in education systems it is easier to focus on the children below and harder to accelerate the children who are above. Addressing the needs of all children as we do at Drysdale Primary is hardest of all requiring great learners, great teachers and a belief in every child.

Prep Enrolments 2021

We have recently sent out enrolment acceptance letters via email for children joining Drysdale Primary School in 2021. The number of enrolments is very similar to recent years.

We are very much looking forward to these children joining the school and starting their primary school journey. It has been a different process this year as we have not been able to offer prospective families a tour to see our school in action. It is a compliment to the recommendations of the DPS community that so many families have chosen Drysdale PS for next year’s Prep. We will be beginning our orientation program in Term 4.

Enrolment Criteria Change

At our most recent School Council meeting, we considered our enrolment criteria with a view to amending them to better reflect our community. All children for whom Drysdale Primary School is their closest government school are entitled to a place here regardless of our total numbers. This is our designated neighbourhood area.

Our School Council has also agreed that we should offer places to children living anywhere in the 3222 postcode even if we are not the closest government school as this reflects the unity of the Drysdale / Clifton Springs community. This is provided numbers in the year group are less than 75 and the total number of students in the school is less than 575.

The AP WrAP

Welcome to Week 8!

RDA (Riding For the Disabled Australia) have been sending little parcels to our students who would normally be participating! It is such a lovely idea and supports students in keeping connected. We hope RDA will start again some time soon!

Heidi from Year 5 shared her work around the Great Barrier Reef and Ocean Acidification. She did such an amazing job creating this non-fiction text! Well done Heidi, we are very impressed!

Scarlett from Prep created a story independently during Remote Learning! She was even having a go at using quotation marks! Mrs Orvis was pretty impressed that a Prep wrote that independently!

The Lions Club are fabulous supporters of our school community. They are offering families the opportunity to access a desktop computer. The computer system will include Windows 10, Office 2016, anti-virus software and Acrobat reader. If you would like to access this, please contact Kate Wojcik via the school email address. drysdale.ps@education.vic.gov.au

The Michael Carr-Gregg PD for families is again being offered. ‘Managing the Coronacoaster.’ Please find attached list of resources that will be available also through the webinar on September 8th 7:30-8:30pm cost is $10.

Year 3 Remote Learning 2.0

During Remote Learning 2.0, the Year 3 students have been working extremely hard learning new concepts and topics in Reading, Writing and Maths.

In Reading, students have been learning how to summarise the texts that they have read, answering and creating their own comprehension questions, inferring about how a character is feeling and describing the personality traits of characters from their books.

In Writing, the students have been looking at and writing different types of informational texts, such as facts about animals, recount writing about their favourite holiday and creating their own newspaper report. The students have also just begun to revisit imaginative texts, where they will be creating and writing their own imaginative stories.

In Maths, the students have been investigating fractions and equivalent fractions, as well as learning how to read coordinates and creating a map of a house/town.

The students have also been completing mindfulness activities and weekly STEM activities, such as designing their own game and creating their own flipbooks.

The Year 3 teachers have been really impressed with how the students have handled Remote Learning for the second time, displaying wonderful Resilience, Acceptance, Integrity, Success and Enjoyment at all times.

Please read more to view a photos of their fantastic work!
