Drysdale Primary School

Return To School

Following the Premier’s announcements on Sunday, the key dates for the return to face-to-face teaching at Drysdale Primary School are these:

Term 4 Week 1 beginning Monday, 5th October:
Remote Learning Continues
During this week there will be meetings arranged between parents, students and class teachers to look forward to Term 4. Details of how to arrange appointments will be sent home early next week. As the teachers will be busy with these meetings for parts of each day, there will be a reduced learning grid and no other WebEx meetings. The teachers will continue to support their students during the parts of the day when they are not holding parent meetings.

Term 4 Week 2 beginning Monday, 12th October:
All students return to school for face-to-face teaching. Staggered start and finish times will resume following the same arrangements that existed at the end of Term 2. Part of the purpose of the parent, student and teacher meetings in week 1 is to ensure students are ready to return so that we can resume face-to-face teaching as soon as possible.

Term 4 Week 3 beginning Monday 19th October:
Please note that there are now two public holidays in this week. The Geelong Cup holiday is on Wednesday 21st and the Grand Final Holiday is now on Friday 23rd October. The timing of these holidays is unfortunate and outside our control. We are required to be closed on both these days.

We are very much looking forward to seeing all of our students back onsite again for Term 4. We congratulate them all for their outstanding resilience throughout remote learning. Well done!

Terry Bradford

Terry has let me know that he will be retiring from Drysdale Primary School at the end of this year. Before then he is taking long service leave from week 2 in Term 4.

This marks the end of a long association with Drysdale Primary and 48 years working within the Victorian Teaching Service. That is an outstanding effort which is to be highly commended. This shows an exceptional commitment and a passion for educating children.

I would like to offer Terry my best wishes as he begins his well-deserved retirement and thank him sincerely for his contributions to this school and our community. During Terry’s long service leave 3B will be taught by Lea Mendleson who previously worked with this class during Term 1.

The AP WrAP

We are nearly there! Just over a week to go!

We understand everyone is starting to or is feeling tired and in a slump. That’s ok but just continue to do what you can and keep in regular contact with your teachers.

The Prep writing task was to create and write about an alien. Sara and Gemma could then use the computer to type out their work. Mrs Elliott was really pleased with the way they used their sounds to work independently.

The JSC have developed some ideas and a ‘Splash of Yellow Day’ to support R U OK day this Thursday. Look out for further challenges and fun tasks to end the term from the JSC!

As the end of this term approaches and families have been facing the challenges of home schooling. We have received the attached information from Bethany about Saver Plus. A positive program that can assist families in planning and preparing for costs in 2021.

Families who are eligible can join now and start building their savings habits, participate in a short course of online financial education modules and at the end of their program – receive up to $500 in matched funds towards education items!

As always, if you need to chat or have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

RUOK Day

This Thursday is RUOK Day. To mark this day, the Junior School Council are asking everyone to bring some yellow to Remote Learning this Thursday. This might some yellow clothing, a yellow hat, a yellow teddy, a yellow background or even yellow hair! Hopefully, all our Webex classes on this day will be a sea of yellow to promote a very important cause.

The theme of RUOK? Day in 2020 is ‘There’s more to say after RUOK?’

The idea is that effective help requires more than just a simple question. There are four steps to follow to be a real support to a friend.

  1. Ask – R U OK?
  2. Listen – without judgement
  3. Encourage Action – experts that can support them
  4. Check-In – they are not alone

School Magazine Cover Photography Competition

Don’t forget to send in your photos for this years school magazine competition. The competition is to determine the front and back cover of the school magazine. Students wishing to have their photography considered for the front and back cover need to email their photograph(s) to Nic at the school email drysdale.ps@education.vic.gov.au by 13th September.

The theme for our front and back cover this year is focused on our school values of Resilience, Acceptance, Integrity, Success and, Enjoyment (‘RAISE’), or remote learning. Any photos that reflect our values or something to show our current environment of remote learning would be excellent.

You can submit as many photo entries as you like. We can’t wait to see what snaps you take!

Camp Australia

We hope that all the dads, grand dads, step dads, uncles, mums that are both mum and dad, and all the other significant people within the Drysdale Primary School community had a fantastic Father’s day.

It’s been another quiet, but fun week at OSHC. The children have been greatly enjoying engaging in activities such as pom pom making, sprouts, tennis, soccer, active games, building towers, making father’s day presents, planting seeds, making up challenges for themselves and just enjoying in the company of others.

While it might not feel like it, with the ongoing lockdown, it is time to start thinking about the upcoming school holidays. School Holiday club bookings are now open, with care being offered at Ocean Grove Primary School, East Geelong Primary School, Fyans Park Primary School, Montpellier Primary School and Geelong Lutheran College.
