Drysdale Primary School

Family Dance Night

The annual Family Dance Night is fast approaching again and will be held on Thursday, 5th March. As we did last year, the dancing will be outside on the basketball courts (weather permitting). The night is a wonderful opportunity for families and staff to catch up with each other and for new families to meet the school community.

Sausage sizzle will be available from 5:00pm (CASH ONLY)

Coffee and Soft Drink will be available at the canteen

Dancing from 6:00pm – 7:30pm

We encourage all families to come along for what is always one of the highlights of every year.

Family dance night is a great chance for families to mingle and socialise.

Pupil Free Day

Please remember that our second pupil free day is happening on Tuesday 10th of March, immediately after the Labour Day long weekend.  The school is closed to students to allow for extended staff training.  On this day we will be continuing to work on consistently high practices in the teaching of English and of Mathematics.  The remaining two pupil free days are booked for Friday 8th of May and Monday 13th of July.

School Car Parks

Please do not drive into the school’s car parks immediately before or after school. The only exception is for holders of blue badges who need to access the reserved parking spaces.

The location of the car parks means that children and adults walking up to the pedestrian entrances to the school have to cross the entrances and exits.  Cars driving in and out of the car parks at this busy time creates an unnecessary danger.  Parents and children should not walk through the car park either.  This is also an unnecessary danger as there are separate pedestrian entrances designed to keep people and cars separate.  Thank you for your co-operation.

The AP WrAP

Week 4 is complete and into week 5 we go!

We have lots happening this week with excursions and incursions for some Year levels in the school! We hope everyone has a fabulous time and finds out new and exciting information!

This week Jorjia from Year 6 was very keen to share her learning about the use of adjectives and adverbs. She used a picture from her favourite movie to write sentences to describe the actions of the characters. Jayden and Kaitlyn from Year 3 also shared some great narrative writing, where they had both planned a narrative and had begun to write their story introductions. Jayden’s story about Pokemon was full of action and excitement and Kaitlyn’s story about a monster scaring people was very engaging. We hope to read the finished story soon.

Seb, Jayden, Ivy and Luca from Year 3 have been working hard on ‘Inferring’ while reading! They read a text as a class titled ‘My Lucky Day.’ All the students were inferring about a character’s personality trait and then as smart thinking readers, provided evidence and a reason for their inferences! Fabulous efforts!

Green Thumbs Club 2020

Today we welcomed and congratulated our 27 new Green Thumb Leaders for 2020.

It was amazing to see the passion and commitment they have all shown by attending meetings, writing letters of application and already assisting in our school’s recycling program.

This group will meet each Monday at lunchtime in 1RH’s classroom where we will work on various projects and activities around the school. I know they are very keen to make a difference and keep Drysdale Primary School a sustainable and environmentally friendly community.

Geelong 2020 Youth Council

Congratulations to former student, Hollie who was inducted into the 2020 Youth Council at City Hall on Thursday night following her successful application earlier this year.

The Youth Councillors will serve as an official ‘youth voice’ for the Geelong Council as they discuss social and community connections, the environment, mental health and wellbeing, and capability; such as skill development, education and employment.

Hollie’s interest in the Council was sparked after an excursion last year to the Geelong Youth Summit where she met the 2019 Youth Council and discussed in detail the issue of youth mental health. Hollie then devoted her term 4 Inquiry to developing a mental health curriculum for primary school students that could be rolled out to all schools in Australia.

It is fantastic to see this love of learning continue beyond the classroom and the opportunities at Drysdale Primary School continuing to deliver after our students leave. We now also have a strong voice representing Drysdale, Clifton Springs and Curlewis on the Youth Council.
