Mathematics Curriculum Day with Michael Ymer

Yesterday all staff took part in a professional learning day with Michael Ymer. It was a hands-on practical day for the staff as Michael took us through a range of activities to engage students and to embed the fundamentals that students should be learning and need to know.

It will be great to see teachers and students having a go at these new activities in the coming days and weeks.

Michael will be back in August to continue the work.

ANZAC Day And GRIP Leadership

Over the past couple of weeks, I have had the pleasure of accompanying the School Captains to the Drysdale RSL ANZAC Day service and to the GRIP Leadership conference.

On both occasions the captains did an awesome job!

At the ANZAC ceremony they were given the honour of reading a poem and laying a wreath.

The GRIP Leadership conference was a great learning event for them as they strive to be the best leaders possible.

Lockdown Drill

Today as part of our Emergency Management Plan we had a practise lockdown at 10am.

Lockdown is where teachers and students “lockdown” in their rooms or a safe place and the external doors and windows are secured.

This may be if we have an external threat in the school grounds or if for some reason we are asked by emergency services to secure our buildings.

The students and teachers did a great job and we will get feedback on what went well, what could be improved and make some adjustments to the plan.

Walk Safely To School Day – Friday 10th May 2024

It’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking!

Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. Although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.

You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:

• Walking with them the whole way to school
• If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop
• If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.

Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great
opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.

Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 10th May 2024!
