Staff Car Park

After seeing another near miss yesterday morning, please can I be very clear: Parents and children must not use the staff car park before or after school.

Please do not drive into the staff car park. Please do not walk through the car park. It is too dangerous.

The only exception is for people displaying a valid blue badge who may use the designated disabled parking space.

Thank you for your understanding.

End of Term 2 – Thursday June 24th

The last day of Term 2 for students at Drysdale Primary School is Thursday, June 24th please note we will be finishing at 3:30 pm. We are finishing on Thursday because Friday, June 25th is now our rearranged Pupil Free Day.

May I thank families for their patience while we have had to reschedule this day to find a day when the presenter and our staff can work together on the second half of our learning about developing student writing. This is important work for which we can already see an impact form the first day back in April.

Australian Early Development Census for Prep Students

Every three years there is a national census of the Nation’s Prep students. Prep teachers complete a range of assessments to help provide information about how our young children are growing and developing.

This information is provided anonymously so that no child’s outcomes identify them specifically. Our Prep teachers will be completing this census over the next few weeks.

Junior School Council Fundraiser – Last Day Of Term Thursday 24th June

Each term our Junior School Council hold a fundraising event to support a charity of relevance to our community.  This term we have chosen to hold a casual dress day on Thursday, June 24th – the last day of term – to support people facing the challenges of being homeless.

In return for a gold coin donation, students can come to school wearing casual dress i.e. not school uniform.

The COVID pandemic has created extra challenges for people who are homeless or living in insecure accommodation. Lockdowns and the reductions in casual employment are bringing more people to the point where they cannot maintain their accommodation. When these challenges are added to the cold winter, the outlook for people having to live on the streets is very bleak.

We are trying to highlight this issue within our school community to help our children gain an understanding of the wider world in which we live.

The AP WrAP

Welcome back onsite!

It is so great to have everyone back and to watch the positive interactions between students.

We have reattached the attendance flyer to reiterate the importance of students being engaged in their schooling. If you need any support with student engagement, please make contact. There are lots of supports we can put in place to ensure positive learning outcomes for all of our students.

It is report writing season for our teachers and we want to thank them for all of their efforts in undertaking these. We are certainly looking forward to reading about the learning and goals achieved throughout Semester 1.

Year 6 Camp Reminder

The deadline for the return of camp permission forms and deposits is this Friday, 18th June. It will be very helpful to our organisation if all students in Years 6 can return the form clearly indicating if they are or are not going to be attending the camp.

With changed conditions for cancellations, we can only include children in the camp group who have returned both the permission form and paid the deposit by the due date. Families who wish to discuss alternative payment options should contact the school office as soon as possible.

Please find attached camp form, you can also print one from the Sentral Parent Portal.

SWPBS – Resilience

This week, tentire school is looking at the school value Resilience. We have been specifically focusing on the idea – we persist, even if tasks are challenging

Shifting in and out of Remote Learning was certainly a challenge and it meant that the Resilience of our students, staff and families was all on full display.

We asked some of our junior students how they showed Resilience during Remote Learning.

“My dog had to go to the vet and it was sad but I still did my learning” – Leia (Year 1)
“When my brother was being annoying I still kept doing my schoolwork” – Kameryn (Year 1)
“I got a resilience token for sounding out the words that I was stuck on” – Poppy (Year 1)
“We moved house during remote learning and I had to keep learning between the two houses.” – Angus (Year 2)
“I got something wrong in my Remote Learning and I didn’t have Miss Everett there in person to help. My brother and I had to work it out together instead” – Kenzie (Year 2)
“My dad showed resilience when we were asking him too many questions. He went on a drive to the shops to have some quiet time.” – Sawyer (Year 2)

Camp Australia

Welcome back to OSHC, and to face to face learning after last weeks short lockdown. The small group of children who attended OSHC during lockdown have been busy trying out some of our new games, and we have had reports of children going home and requesting those same games at home because they’d enjoyed them so much. This week at OSHC we are focusing on Superheroes, with children encouraged to think of those heroes in our community who might not necessarily wear a cape.
