Drysdale Primary School

The AP WrAP

We have had so many amazing students come and share their learning in the past week!

Noah, Leia, Scarlett, Halle and Luella all shared their amazing procedural texts! Noah from Year 1 used some fabulous adjectives to describe the honey he was using on his banana and honey sandwich! Leia, Scarlett, Halle and Luella gave such clear instructions on making a snowman. They even made a little model to go along with it!

Ryder and Felix from Prep shared their writing and the toys they enjoyed playing with! Ryder wrote “I like to play with my toys” while Felix did a wonderful job at spelling ‘Nintendo’ using the sounds he could hear!

Some amazing news came into our emails today! Mya from Year 6 competed in the interschool dressage competition hosted by the Royal Geelong Agriculture Society. Mya won both her ‘Dressage Tests’ and was overall winner in her level. Mya was sponsored by Geelong College and did an amazing job on her horse ‘Bart.’

A massive thanks to those parents/carers who attended our Volunteer Sessions. It was amazing to see so many faces, both new and existing, offer to support our school in so many ways! We will look at doing another session, possibly in an online format in the coming weeks.

Please see read more for all the amazing photos

Year 6 Camp

We are excited to announce that the plans for the new Year 6 Camp have been finalised.

Heading to Canberra, like we have done for so many years now, was considered too much of a risk in these COVID times. In designing an alternative, we looked to replicate as much of the educational element of Canberra as possible along with finding suitable accommodation to keep our Year 6s entertained. This has seen us combining two excursions to Melbourne on the way to and from our new camp at Toolangi in the Yarra Valley.

Camp Toolangi offer a range of activities that we will be enjoying throughout the middle of the week. These include a flying fox, high ropes course, possum glider, mountain biking, obstacle course, and a low ropes course. After the success of last year’s High Ropes and Zipline Excursion, we believe that this will provide an excellent opportunity for students to learn how to take responsible risks and step outside their comfort zone in preparation for their transition to Secondary School.

Proposed Itinerary
Monday 29 Nov – Immigration Museum and Old Melbourne Gaol
Tuesday 30 Nov – Camp Activities
Wednesday 1 Dec – Camp Activities
Thursday 2 Dec – Camp Activities
Friday 3 Dec – Australian Museum of Sport, MCG Tour and Shrine of Remembrance

Camp permission forms have been handed out to the Year 6 students and are due back along with a deposit payment by Friday 18th June.

Pupil Free Day – Wednesday 2nd June

Our third pupil free day is being held on Wednesday 2nd June . Please note that the school will be closed to students on this day.

Our staff will be continuing the training that we started earlier this term to deepen our understanding of teaching children to write. It has been great to see classes introduce the ideas from the first day’s training into their learning.

SWPBS – Acceptance

The last two weeks have seen DPS focussing on our school value, Acceptance. Students have explored what Acceptance looks like at DPS, with a particular focus on how to display Acceptance when using ICT or online.

Topics that we covered were the DPS ICT Acceptable Use Agreement, safe use of technology, digital safety and treating others the way we would like to be treated.

The older year levels also covered the idea that positive communication online means having the skills to take part in online community life in an ethical and respectful way. It is also lawful and respects privacy.

In Year 6, the students participated in an activity where they paired up with someone they wouldn’t usually work or play with. They then had to create a character that took the best parts of each person. This saw them working collaboratively and focussing on each others’ strengths, as we all have something positive. It also allowed them to practice talking with an ‘unfamiliar’ student in preparation for building new relationships in Year 7.

Click read more to view a few of the characters that we created.

Tissues

Winter is fast approaching and our classrooms are in need of tissues! As a school we use a great number of tissues every year.

In order to ensure we have a sufficient supply of tissues we ask that each student kindly donate a box of tissues to their teacher for use in their class.

Help Needed for Bunnings Sausage Sizzle – Sunday May 30th

We have been lucky enough to be allocated a spot at Bunnings Leopold to run a sausage sizzle fundraiser for the school!

This is on Sunday May 30th between 8:30am-4:00pm.

We are asking for family volunteers please. We have some fabulous staff who have also volunteered. Please contact Nicole Alonso via the school email if you can help drysdale.ps@education.vic.gov.au
Partners welcome. Children under 18 are not as per Bunnings protocols.

It is a great opportunity to raise funds for our school. If you can’t volunteer on the day, we would still love to see you and the family come to Bunnings for a sausage!

Camp Australia

This past week has been another fun filled week at after school care. Despite the turning in the weather limiting our time outside, we have still been encouraging active play through our use of the school hall space, as well as going outside whenever we get the chance.

This week, to connect with our GAWS donations drive, we are focusing on our pets. As a part of this we are currently refreshing our pets wall. All OSHC families are invited to bring in a photo of their pet to have put up on the wall.
