Kids Matter Assembly – This Friday, 14th May

This Friday is our first Kids Matter Assembly of Term 2. All students are invited to wear their house coloured t-shirts on Friday.

During our Kids Matter Assemblies the children sit in their house groups. The assembly starts slightly earlier at 2:30pm. However due to the continued COVID restrictions we are still unable to allow parents or visitors to attend such large indoor events.

Karate Champion

At assembly on Friday we celebrated the amazing talent of Kenzie from Year 2. She travelled with her family to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra for the International Sports Karate Association battle of Canberra.

Kenzie competed in four categories, and came home with three gold medals and one bronze medal. She has also qualified for the national championships in Sydney at the end of the year. Congratulations Kenzie!

Pupil Free Day – Wednesday 2nd June

Our third pupil free day is being held on Wednesday 2nd June . Please note that the school will be closed to students on this day.

Our staff will be continuing the training that we started earlier this term to deepen our understanding of teaching children to write. It has been great to see classes introduce the ideas from the first day’s training into their learning.

Cold, Sore Throat And Other Flu Like Symptions

Current advice from the Chief Health Officer is that students and staff with cold, sore throat or flu like symptoms cannot be in school until they have returned a negative COVID test.

Today’s positive case north of Melbourne is a timely reminder that we must all continue to be vigilant during this continuing pandemic. Please can I ask that parents whose children are showing any of these symptoms take their child to be tested and keep them at home until the test is returned negative.

Thank you for your understanding when we have had to replace staff who are also required to remain home until they have returned a negative test.

The AP WrAP

It has been a very busy week of learning and events!

NAPLAN has started today and as we write this, we have Years 3 and 5 completing their first assessment! Well done to all of the students, teachers and staff involved!

We have had students attend their third RDA session, a fabulous Superwoman Stall, Year 5 attended the ‘Livability’ excursion in Melbourne and we held our first School Volunteers session.

We thank all who volunteered for the Superwoman stall to help make the special people in our lives feel all the more special.

Our second Volunteers session will be held TOMORROW evening 5:30-6:00pm in the LOTE room which is located at the front of the Prep building. All welcome!

The Australian Childhood Foundation has some amazing (and free) parenting resources – please see the following link Bringing Up Great Kids Resources – ACF Professionals (childhood.org.au) that you may find helpful.

Nate from Year 1 was very excited to share his learning! He was working very hard on creating words that rhyme and even found a word that made the same sound at the end but had a different spelling pattern! Well done Nate!

Alfie also from Year 1 shared his Procedural text which made us very hungry!!!!! Alfie included very clear instructions on the steps to make toast!

Well done Nate and Aflie!

We have been lucky enough to be allocated a spot at Bunnings Leopold to run a sausage sizzle fundraiser for the school!

This is on Sunday May 30th between 8:30am-4:00pm.

We are asking for family volunteers please. We have some fabulous staff who have also volunteered. Please contact Nicole Alonso via the school email if you can help drysdale.ps@education.vic.gov.au
Partners welcome. Children under 18 are not as per Bunnings protocols.

It is a great opportunity to raise funds for our school. If you can’t volunteer on the day, we would still love to see you and the family come to Bunnings for a sausage!

Year 5 Livability Excursion

Last Tuesday, the Year 5s travelled up to the CBD of Melbourne. When we arrived we had a tour of the city with our own guide. We saw an ‘eco house’ which they predict will be the future of housing. We saw many old pictures of how Melbourne used to look and we were gifted a plastic mini person to create street art with in the laneways of Melbourne. We were very impressed with the street art and learnt lots of information about the history of the city.

Then we travelled to IMAX where we watched the production ‘A Beautiful Planet 3D’. It was very interesting and told us many facts that we didn’t know about how the Earth was made. It was cool wearing the glasses and being at a cinema with such a massive screen. The asteroids were coming straight us!

It was a fun day up in Melbourne that we really enjoyed. It was great to get out of the classroom and spend the day with our friends.
