Family Dance Night

Thank you to everyone who came to Family Dance Night last Thursday. It was so good to have our school community together again for an event. I was very grateful to all our families who attended and showed that such events are possible by maintaining social distancing and registering their attendance either through use of the QR codes or on paper.

I also wanted to mention how grateful and impressed I was that when clearing up we did not need to pick up a single piece of rubbish from the oval.

I would also like to express my thanks to the staff and parents who helped on the evening, especially Mr. Stephens who organized the Dance night and led the event with his incomparable style and flair.

Please see read more for all the photos!

Second-Hand Uniform Shop

The Second-Hand Uniform Shop had a very successful relaunch at the Family Dance Night. The Junior School Council had worked hard setting up the classroom in the portables near the Prep Playground, next to the Hall. With many families coming to enjoy the Family Dance Night, we had many interested customers who took advantage of the opening special of a gold coin donation per item of clothing.

We raised over $150 and the JSC are very excited to start working out what they put this money toward to help improve our school.

Thank you also to those who have dropped in unwanted, clean items of clothing into the box in the Front Office. These have already been sold! We are happily receiving more donations and are particularly seeking skorts and school bags.

Now that the store is up and running, it will be open in two different timeslots every week. Thank you to Alicia Dimitrijevski who has volunteered to staff the store during these times.

Second Hand Uniform Opening Hours

Tuesday  8:45 – 9:15am
Friday 3:15 – 3:45pm

Drysdale Market And School Easter Raffle

The next Drysdale Market will be on Sunday March 21st at the Drysdale Reserve from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. To coincide with this the school is running an Easter Raffle.

We are looking for volunteers to help sell tickets at a school stall at the market – 8 people for 30 minutes each would be perfect! Feel free to buddy up and bring a friend! Many hands make light work!

If you are willing to help, please email me philip.dunlop-moore@education.vic.gov.au  or email the office drysdale.ps@education.vic.gov.au this week with your preferred time.

If you are a parent or friend interested in helping with the newly formed Parents and Friends Group but have not been able to make any of the recent meet and greet times, this would also be a time to head down to the market and hear about plans for the Parents Group in 2021.

Covid Testing

As we head into Autumn please can I remind everyone that if your child has any COVID like symptoms – cough, runny nose, temperature – it is important that they stay home and have a COVID test.

I know this is very like typical cold symptoms, but early testing is the only way of telling the difference. We are required to send home for testing any children who have COVID like symptoms.

At present the turn round time for test results seems to be under 24 hours, so this should not result in children having too much time off school. We are keen for the children to attend as often as they possibly can to give us the best chance to help them catch up with any leaning missed last year.

The AP WrAp

We are past the halfway point of the term. It has been such a great start to the school year and it promises to be a busy and enjoyable end of term. There are many activities coming up for the whole school and different year levels to finish off the term, including Lightning Premiership, Cross Country and the Slime Spectacular. We know our students will do their best and represent our school well at all these events.

Thank you to all those that attended the Family Dance Night. It was a great night and we really enjoyed seeing so many families come and have a picnic on the school oval. The kids certainly had a great time with their friends dancing to all of Mr Stephens’ tunes.

If you have any concerns about your child’s learning and are in need of support, please don’t hesitate in contacting the school to arrange an appointment with Kate or Nicole. We are both more than happy to talk with you about this and determine the next steps for you and your child.

Year 3 Ecolinc Excursion

As a part of our Inquiry Big Idea for Term 1, ‘Living things have observable features and depend on each other for survival’, students attended Ecolinc to learn more about how plants and animals depend on each other and the environment to survive. Students examined various native animals, observed a range of plant adaptations, explored grassland ecosystem feeding relationships and investigated the effect of urbanization on native animals.

House Cross Country (Years 3-6)

We are still seeking some volunteers to assist with the House Cross Country on Tuesday 23rd March. Thank you to 10 parents who have already put forward their name to assist.

We find that this event is a great opportunity to not only encourage our students to keep running around the picturesque course but also to spend a bit of time getting to know some other parents.

A coffee van is being organised to arrive at the Recreation Reserve at 9:00am and we have scheduled our next Parent Coffee Catch-Up for this time.  This will give parents a bit of time to have a coffee and a chat before the students arrive at around 9:15am.

The day will be completed by around 12:30pm.

Please click read more to put your name forward to assist on the day.

Slime Spectacular Update – Call for Volunteers

Preparations for the Slime Spectacular (31st March) are well underway. We are very confident that this will rank alongside the Colour Run, Mini Mudder and Obstacool as an unforgettable whole school event that raises much-needed funds to continue with our Landscape Masterplan.

As mentioned last week, all funds raised will go towards the construction of an outdoor stage in the Quiet Area outside the Music Room to allow for outdoor events such as Assemblies and Family Dance Night. It will also give the Music program a valuable teaching space and will be used by many children at recess and lunch for creative play.

Hopefully, all students have brought home their sponsorship booklet that was distributed last week and parents have started to create their online fundraising page (more information on this will be shared next week).

The JSC will also be running an ‘How many Easter Eggs in the Jar?’ competition and you will also be able to purchase a ticket to ‘Slime a Principal!’ An opportunity not to be missed! More details around this will follow in next week’s Link.

To successfully run an event such as this, we rely heavily on our wonderful community of parents and friends. We are putting a call out for volunteers to assist on the day. Click read more to find out more information about the day and to access the link to sign up (before all the slots are taken!).

Camp Australia

We hope the entire Drysdale Primary School community enjoyed their long weekend, and enjoyed the family dance night on Thursday.
