It was wonderful that so many members of our community visited the Art Show last Friday. There was a tremendously creative display of art work reflecting the talent and abilities of our children. They are inspired by our two art teachers, Melinda Henderson and Bronwyn Osborne, who have encouraged and taught the children expertly to make the most of their abilities. I particularly enjoy looking at the Drysdale Primary School Art Show because it reflects the best of art teaching. There are some noticeable examples of excellence. The children have clearly been taught a particular technique and given a stimulus for creating their own pieces. The result and the point of difference is that the pieces show how the technique has been applied without every child attempting to copy the stimulus. Our children use a wide variety of techniques and media. The DPS students make 2D and 3D pieces incorporating paint, pastels, charcoal, clay, other modelling materials, fabric as well as IT programs. There is a clear progression from Prep to Year 6. Looking at the art it is possible to identify the improvements learnt in each year group through the well planned and explicit teaching. We are very fortunate to have two talented and skillful teachers on the staff at school. I would also like to thank the other staff and parents who supported the art show in so many different ways from helping set up the show, to cooking the BBQ and greeting visitors. I would like to acknowledge the work of the office team who ensure that supplies are ordered and that information enquiries are addressed.
