It’s been another fun filled week at OSHC. The return of nice weather on Thursday and Friday meant that we could venture outside, and on Friday we celebrated the nice weather with a picnic on the playground, a very pleasant way to spend a Friday afternoon. Other popular activities have included playing with balloons, dominos, netball, soccer, basketball, football, downball, line tigi, coloured corners, skipping, perler beads and battleship.
At Camp Australia, all our OSHC programs follow the Healthy Eating Program. We make sure that the children who attend our programs eat healthy and delicious meals and snacks that are in line with the Australian Dietary Guidelines. To help you and your family stay healthy, we thought we’d share one of our most popular savoury dip from our very own Healthy Eating Cookbook.
Mexican Bean and Corn Dip
This quick and easy dip can be varied by adding cheese and/or diced fresh tomato on top. It can also be served hot or cold.
You’ll need:
2 tins of beans (use salt reduced baked beans or kidney beans)
1 tin corn
1 jar of salsa
½ cup grated cheese
5-6 medium cherry tomatoes diced or 1 tin of tomatoes
Method:
- Refrigerate the cheese provided for 5 mins so that it is easier to grate.
- Drain excess sauce off beans and corn but do not rinse.
- Mix salsa and beans together.
- Place grated cheese and tomato on top.
- Serve a teaspoon of cold dip with crackers and/or vegetables.
- Ready to eat. Enjoy!

Parents, please be advised that the way we do the rolls is changing at Before and After School Care. The 21st century has caught up with us and we are now using a tablet to mark the rolls. Please be aware that you need to make sure all of your authorised pick up people are not just on the documentation at the service, but also have been entered through head office. Please ensure that all of your additional contact people are on your records. This can be checked by contacting Camp Australia Head Office on 1300 105 343.
Parents also please be aware that as of the 2nd of July the new Child Care Subsidy from the Australian Government came into affect. If you use the service, regardless of if it is before school care, after school care, or school holiday club, you will need to get in touch with centrelink to check your details are correct, and perhaps add some information due to the changeover to the Child Care Subsidy from the existing Child Care Rebate and the Child Care Benefit if you have not done so already.
A friendly reminder for parents that for staffing and catering purposes children should be booked into OSHC through the Camp Australia head office, or if it is impractical to do so, through a staff member at OSHC. Where possible bookings and cancellations should be made through the Camp Australia Head Office website https://www.campaustralia.com.au/ or phone number, which is 1300 105 343. This is to ensure that we have adequate numbers of staff present to care for your children, and that we have prepared enough food to go around at snack time.
