The Year 5s and 6s have completed their Swimming Lessons program. Due to the closure of the Portarlington Pool, we have moved our lessons into Newtown at the Geelong Aquatic Centre. While this does mean a longer bus journey, we are very fortunate to have sourced a pool that we get exclusive use of and that can run 9 groups of lessons at one time. Overall, this means that the swimming program for the entire school can run over 6 weeks instead of 8, which then reduces the impact of swimming on the day to day operations of the school.
In the final two weeks of this term, the Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 Swimming Lessons are scheduled to be held. Then, the final grouping will be Years 3 & 4 in Weeks 3 & 4 of Term 3 (July 30 – Aug 10).
In week one and week two of Term two, Years 5 and 6 have been going into Newtown for swimming. The year 6s and 5s leave at 11:40 and get back at school around 2:30. The classes are split into three sessions and there are nine classes in each session. The classes are based on the skill levels so there are Year 5s in Year 6 classes.
The buses are based on sessions as well, so session one is on bus one, session two is on bus two and session three is on bus three. We also do an hour of schoolwork as well while we wait for the other sessions. The sessions help us to be organised and get where we need to be on time.
