On March 26th and March 27th students are invited to lead a discussion with their parents and their teacher about the work they have been doing and the progress they have been making towards their learning goals. These Student Led Conferences replace the parent teacher interviews. Bookings are now open on the Parent Portal, Sentral.
As the title suggests this will be an opportunity for each of our students to demonstrate greater ownership of their learning.
Increasing student leadership, students’ self-awareness and improving self-confidence while offering parents a greater involvement in their children’s education, are all important goals at this stage of Drysdale Primary School’s development as an outstanding school.
The Student Led Conferences are part of a process through which the teachers and students will shortly be setting learning goals. These learning goals will be recorded at the front of the new look school diaries. During the term the children will work towards these goals and save a piece of work into their personal section of the Parent Portal, Sentral that demonstrates their progress towards the goals. It will be these pieces of work that they will use to lead the discussion at the Student Led Conferences.
To help students we will provide a guide and for parents we will provide examples of questions to ask. If Parents have questions that they would prefer not to discuss in front of their child, please can I ask that you make contact with your child’s teacher separately.
If your child has set a goal in a Specialist subject area (Indonesian, Performing Arts, Visual Art, Physical Education) or has a particular passion for one of these areas then you can also make a booking to see these teachers. Please note that without a booking we cannot guarantee that the Specialist teachers will be free to meet with you so please make a formal time for this discussion.
