Our School Council met last week, as they do in the third week of every month during term time. In an effort to keep our community informed, we have put together a brief overview of what was discussed at the meeting.
Finance
- Work is continuing on providing a more transparent approach to fundraising and spending.
- A discussion was held regarding the continual improvement of the promotion of the long running connection between the Drysdale Community Market and school.
Education
- An Inquiry Teaching and Learning Policy was presented and approved by Council. This can be viewed here – (DPS Inquiry Teaching & Learning). This new approach has seen the year commence with a number of excursions and incursions already being undertaken. Many of these have been to dedicated STEM centres (such as Ecolinc and the Victorian Space Science Education Centre), and as we are classified as a rural school, they have come at no cost to the students.
- A new approach for homework was presented and approved. This will now result in the development of an updated Learning@Home Policy.
Environment
- Representatives of the committee are currently exploring the possibility of developing a landscape masterplan.
- The committee has welcomed Bridget Henry aboard as the staff member responsible for sustainability.
Community
- Details of the Trivia Night (10th August) were confirmed and a budget was set to allow the outsourcing of the event.
- The 2018 Spring Fair date was confirmed as Friday 16th November.
- Approval was given to the new Parent Fundraising Group to allocate the funds raised by the upcoming Colour Run to improve the outdoor environment of the school, with a particular focus around the new Prep building.
- The next Community Sub-Committee meeting will focus on establishing a list of improvements that we could then align with individual fundraising events to present to School Council at the March meeting.
Other Business
- Approval was given to the Drysdale PS Swimming Team to attend the Bellarine Division Competition on March 14th and the Year 4s to walk to the Drysdale Library on March 20th.
- A Parent Engagement Working Group is being established to allow parents the opportunity to provide input and feedback into our strategic aims and initiatives. This group will be headed by Shane Kennedy under the Community Sub-Committee.
