It has been another busy, yet fun week at OSHC. We have been introducing our new children to the service, and they seem to be settling in well so far. Our older and more experienced students have been stepping up within the program, helping out the other students by showing them where things are, and helping them develop and extend themselves by teaching them new games and sports.
Popular activities have included sports such as cricket, football, soccer and basketball, as well as imaginative play, Chess, Jenga and Draughts, and talking about the winter Olympics and the countries that participate in them, and the children have enjoyed racing each other to find countries on a map.
Some of our older students have used their time together at OSHC to plan the making of cupcakes for all of their classmates as gifts of valentines day, showing consideration for others. It was great to see the idea evolve and develop into quite a large project.
On Friday the 9th of Feb we had a movie night as a special treat to celebrate the beginning of the Winter Olympics. The children were given a choice of six films, all of which were based around winter sports, and had to vote, developing their awareness of the democratic process. The most popular choice was Cool Runnings, which the children greatly enjoyed.
A friendly reminder for parents that for staffing and catering purposes children should be booked into OSHC through the Camp Australia head office, or if it is impractical to do so, through a staff member at OSHC. Where possible bookings and cancellations should be made through the Camp Australia Head Office website or phone number, which is 1300 105 343. This is to ensure that we have adequate numbers of staff present to care for your children, and that we have prepared enough food to go around at snack time.
In related news, could parents be sure to notify OSHC directly, or the Camp Australia head office, if your child will not be attending a session they are booked in for. This helps streamline the session for everyone else as we are not spending time trying to track down children who are not actually coming. This includes days when your child is absent from school for whatever reason. The Camp Australia Drysdale Primary School OSHC mobile number is 0404 427 452.
