Outdoor Stage

Over the last couple of years the school’s major fundraising efforts have been towards the construction of an outdoor stage. This is a significant and complex undertaking. We are expecting that the stage will be built over the next few weeks and be ready for use in term 2. It represents the latest phase in the delivery of the school’s landscape masterplan following the construction of the Ga-Ga pits, the sand pit and the outdoor classroom.

This master plan aims to coordinate improvements to our outdoor environment to enhance the children opportunities and enjoyment. The outdoor stage will have a dual purpose. During recess and lunchtime it will provide a space in which children can explore their creative play. During school events or outdoor assemblies, it will provide a performance platform.

There will be activities for the children, live music, market stalls and options for dinner.

There is a lot of organisation which is most easily done by lots of people each doing a little.

Sustainability News

KEEP THE DATE FREE
We have our first whole school working bee coming up on Saturday 25th March. More information to come in the following weeks about jobs to be done and times, but keep the morning free to come along and help to clean up the school grounds.

CLEAN UP DRYSDALE PRIMARY SCHOOL WEEK
This week is Clean up Drysdale Primary School Week – in preparation for Clean Up Australian Day on Sunday March 5th. Here at Drysdale Primary School, we have some fun activities planned for the week to encourage cleaning up and taking pride in our school. This week we are encouraging all students to bring Nude Food every day of the week. Names will be collated at the end of the week and a class and individual awards will be presented at Assembly on Friday. Each lunchtime we will be running different activities from poster competitions to cleaning up the school grounds to making personal pledges to look after our environment. All students are encouraged to participate in all or some of these activities throughout the week.
Thanks to all families for supporting our schools sustainability program.

NUDE FOOD
Thanks to Alyssa from Bellarine Wholefoods who is donating vouchers for our weekly Nude Food winners. Remember to bring your lunches and snacks as nude food and get in the draw to win one of these super vouchers to spend in store as you please. Visit Bellarine Wholefoods to see their whole range https://www.bellarinewholefoods.com.au/

WONDERSOFT BREAD BAG RECYCLING
Lets start collecting and do our bit for DPS to be more sustainable! We are encouraging our school community again this year to collect bread bags. By collecting bread bags and bringing them into school we will receive points towards new sports equipment. The more bread bags we collect the more points we get!
Last year DPS received some much needed netballs for our school and saved 12 plus kgs of bread bags going to landfill!

Donations Please – Organic bags
A huge thanks to those families who have donated organic bin liners to their classrooms. These bags are helping us collect all food scraps and organic waste so that we can develop our compost in our schools veggie garden. If you still need to donate to our student’s class we are very happy to accept a roll of 36L green Mr Eco compostable bin liners. This can be purchased at our local Coles or Woolworth stores.

District Tennis

Congratulations to the Drysdale Primary School tennis team who represented us at the District Tournament last week. In extremely hot conditions, all of our players gave their very best efforts. For some, it was their very first time representing the school in interschool sport and they enjoyed the experience to play a game they love against children from other schools.

This included Maggie and Eliza, both in Year 4, who were playing against much older students. We were fortunate enough to have Tyson and Streicher make it through to the semi finals, which is a fantastic result. Congratulations again to the entire team; Nic, Tyson, Streicher, Henry, Pheonix, Maeve, Maggie and Eliza.

It was wonderful to get such positive feedback from the other schools about our team’s sportsmanship and effort, you did us all proud.

A huge thank you also to the parents and families who transported, supervised and supported our team.

School Inclusion and Wellbeing News

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club has been very popular and great to see lots of students visiting the Club to get a toasted cheese, jam or vegemite sandwich and some fruit to start their day right. We are open from 8:30am til 8:55am for students to come and collect breakfast. We know some mornings can be challenging and rushed or you don’t realise til the last moment that there is no bread left, so offering our students breakfast two mornings a week can help our students start their day right, even if things haven’t gone to plan at home.

Thank you to the families who have dropped off donations to the Breakfast Club over the past week. We are always very grateful and happily accept brown paper bags, strawberry jam and margarine. Feel free to continue to show your support by donating these items via the school office or at Breakfast Club.

Social Work

If you are in need of support please email our Wellbeing Team (Anthony Martino and Kate Wojcik) at ap.support@drysdaleps.vic.edu.au

We are happy to arrange a time to discuss your child’s needs and your concerns, in order to support them attending and engaging with school this year.

Skills in Schools Clinics

In PE classes over the last couple of weeks, we have been very fortunate to have had clinics run in Rugby (seniors), Basketball (middles) and Football (juniors). This has been part of the Victorian Government’s ‘Positive Start’ initiative and has been a great way to introduce many of our students to a potentially new sport in a fun manner. Students who are interested in joining in these sports after experiencing the sessions, can visit the following for more information on how to –

Learning In The Middle Years

This year we have started a new program which we call ‘Hands On Learning’. Each Tuesday afternoon, we undertake engaging, practical activities that offer new and different skills to our students.

We are meeting new people and learning about groups within our community such as The Clifton Springs Men’s Shed, the Queenscliff Croquet Club and the local Drysdale Library. We also have a groups who are working weekly in our school garden to ensure our composting, worm farms herbs and vegetables are maintained and producing effectively.

If there are any parents who can help with this program – or if you have any special skills, hobbies or talents you can teach our Middle Years students please speak to your students teacher as we would love to hear about some new and interesting ideas.

Picture Plates

Due to the success of Picture Plates over the past few years, the Parents and Friends Group have decided to bring them back. Picture plates are a great keepsake in which your child’s drawing (or your photos) are made into your very own melamine dinner plate, something to keep forever.

As something extra special, the Year 6 student will be provided with the opportunity to create a mug or a plate (or both).

Picture plate templates will be sent home during the last week of term for families to complete during the school holidays, with completed templates returned to your child’s class teacher during the first week of Term 2.

The plates take around 6-8 weeks to be created and will be returned to your child towards the end of Term 2. Parents can pay for their picture products online.

More information to come………
