Drysdale Primary School

Classes Staffing And Arrangements For 2023

We are close to finalising the staffing for 2023. Once this information is complete I will let you know who is teaching in which part of the school.

We have begun the allocation of children to classes beginning with the students’ friendships. Each student was recently asked to nominate five friends on a “hand” that came home. Our aim is for each student to be in a class with at least one of their five nominated friends.

The class allocations are very complex and will not be finished until mid-December. We are holding our transitions before then. These are general opportunities for the children to become familiar with their new classrooms rather than based around possible groupings of students.

Camps

Our camp program is continuing with the senior students’ camp at Toolangi. This is a great camp with so much to do and experience. There is an added dimension of accepting the challenge of the wintry weather.

There is a fabulous team of staff and parents supporting the children to get the most out of their week’s experience. Our final camp experience for 2022 will the sleepover for our year 2s and evening activities for our year 1s.

Whole School Transition

This year our whole school will be involved in 4 transition sessions to help prepare for the upcoming school year. We have always provided an effective and engaging transition program for new Prep students starting their school journey and this year we are extending this to include our current Prep to Year 5 students.

It is important to us as a school, that we support the needs of everyone and know that moving classes or year levels can be a daunting time for many. Involving the whole school in this program will hopefully alleviate some of the worries around the new school year.

The next session is on Tuesday 6th December, with the purpose to support the social and emotional needs of students as they transition into their next year of schooling. Students will visit their 2023 learning community and participate in friendship building activities, getting to know new people and staff and be involved in discussions about what to expect in their 2023 learning community.

They will be given the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the things they’re looking forward to and may be worried about, in preparing them to Start Right in 2023.

Our current Year 6 students will be at DPS for the first 3 sessions, before they also attend their own transition to their 2023 secondary school on Tuesday December 13th. They will be supervised and working with some of our staff during these times, so are expected to attend school as normal.

If you have any queries about the transition process please email the school at ap.suport@drysdaleps.vic.edu.au

Transition dates and times:
Tuesday December 6th, 9.30am – 10.30am
Tuesday December 13th, 9.30am – 12pm – this will be the session students meet in their proposed 2023 classes and teachers.

Drysdale Community Market

Regrettably we had to cancel the Drysdale Community Market for the second month running. This is unheard of during the ten years in which I have been involved. Parts of the site are waterlogged while other parts are flooded. We are very much hoping that by the date of the December Market on the 18th everything will have dried out and we will be open as usual.

Remo Ulpiano
We are very sad to inform our Drysdale Market Community of the sudden and unexpected passing of Remo Ulpiano. Remo was a season stallholder who was ever present for most of our market’s existence. He was very much loved by the Drysdale Market Committee, his customers and fellow market stallholders.

We looked forward each month to see Remo, catching up for a chat and a laugh. Remo always had a positive outlook and a sunny personality regardless of the changeable weather. Remo was a kind man, very family orientated, loved gardening and sharing his knowledge of plants.

He was a passionate supporter of children needing extra support and was always happy to support the Drysdale Community Market, Drysdale Primary School’s major fundraiser supporting the inclusion program for children with additional needs. We would like to acknowledge the support Remo provided to the program over the years and the large contribution Remo played in making the program possible. Remo will be greatly missed by all, he was one of a kind. Rest in Peace

We are looking for volunteers to help with our Colour Explosion School Run 4 Fun! If you can help on the day, please sign up here: Colour Run Sign Up Form. We are looking for volunteers to throw coloured powder on the students, volunteers to supervise obstacles and volunteers to help pack up. For those that are wanting to REALLY be part of the action, why not join in the PARENTS RUN, your child/ren would love to see you in amongst the action too!!

Volunteers are required to hold a current Working With Children’s Check (WWCC). To apply for a WWCC you can go online at Working With Children’s Check and fill out an application, its free! Staff and volunteers will do their best to aim the powder towards the torso. However, wind may cause the powder to go into your child’s face or hair. Sunglasses will be provided for students on the day. Please see below attachment for ingredient listings and toxicology safety data sheet.

Students with respiratory conditions, such as Asthma, or WHO DO NOT wish to participate in being covered in powder, but would like to run through the stations can do so and are asked to wear a dark coloured t-shirt such as Navy or Black (NO singlet or crop tops).

Students have been earning tokens all year when demonstrating our school values. The Matrix lists many expected behaviours the students can show to earn tokens for each of the 5 values – at all times, inside, outside and in the community.

The end of year is always a busy time for cashing in tokens and in recent weeks many students have chosen to use their tokens for a movie, a prize from the prize box, to be a teachers assistant in another class, to have extra recess time or time on the iPad/computers and canteen vouchers.

The top reward is the 200 Club – where students cash in 200 tokens and are rewarded with a certificate, canteen voucher and a casual dress day of their choosing (negotiated with class teachers). Both Ashley  and Zara  from Middle years received their 200 Club reward and there are many more students about to receive this at assembly this week. It is a marvellous achievement and always a lot of fun and excitement as tokens are cashed in.

Camp Australia

December is nearly upon us, and at OSHC, that means the commencement of Christmas activities…although to be honest, some of the children decided to start early. From a festive themed colouring competition run by one of our Middle years students with amazing prizes, to having a go at playing their favourite Christmas songs on musical instruments, Christmas karaoke, lots of Christmas crafts to decorate with, to Christmas themed sports challenges, there is something for everyone over the next few weeks at OSHC.
