Senior Classrooms

The school is making preparations for 2023. As decisions are made I will communicate these to our school community.

One decision we have made is to relocate the four senior classes for 2023 into individual classrooms.

The current senior learning area will be repurposed to house our library and some of the associated support spaces such as our WellBeing Hub.

We hope that this will allow the portables currently accommodating our library to be returned to the Education Department. This in turn will open up the space at that end of the school so that the small orchard on one side of the portables and the veggie garden on the other are joined into one larger space.

Junior School Council Casual Dress Day This Friday 28th October

On this Friday 28th October, the Junior School Council have organised a casual dress day. Students are invited to wear clothing other than their usual uniform, and in return provide a gold coin donation. This money will be collected by your JSC representatives.

The charity we have chosen to support is Feed Me Bellarine.

Feed Me Bellarine are a local business who supply food for people in need. Another service they provide is delivery of meals and groceries to families in need. As most of you may already know, petrol prices have increased extremely, and that is one of their biggest costs. The money we raise will help with this. They also happen to support our very own Breakfast Club.

So, in order to show our gratitude, all profits will go to Feed Me Bellarine. We encourage all students to participate, and bring a gold coin donation to school on Friday.

Vickie,
Year 6

Breakfast Club

Thank you for your support in the past fortnight for Breakfast Club. We can see that students are considering the school environment more again and knowing that rubbish and food scraps are to be placed in a bin, not left on the ground. We have been busy each morning and have compliments from many staff that volunteer with us, that the students wait patiently in the line and are great at using their manners when asking for their breakfast.

If you wanted to support us we are in need of margarine and brown paper bags. You are welcome to drop them off to the office, Kate’s office or Breakfast Club. We have plenty of jam and vegemite to get us through the year, so thank you to families that have donated these items throughout the year. it will all be used and has been very much appreciated.

Thank you also to our sponsors this year – Baker’s Delight Drysdale, Feed Me Bellarine, the Uniting Church and Lion’s Club. Without their generous donations, as well as the donations from families, we would not have been able to open twice a week. Thank you all so much.
Kate, Kendra and Kylie.

Social Work @ DPS

Anthony Martino has settled into his new role very well as our Social Worker and has been working closely with Kate and Nicole to establish the Wellbeing Team. If you are wanting to link in with some Wellbeing Support at DPS, please email the team at – ap.support@drysdaleps.vic.edu.au

This account is monitored by Kate and Nicole each day and we will always endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.
Alternatively, you can call the school office and ask to speak to one of us. If we aren’t available, we will call you back as soon as possible.

Currently we are working on setting up the processes for 1:1 counselling as well as some small group intervention and therapy sessions. We want this role to be a proactive approach to support the wellbeing and mental health of students in our school. We will contact families if your child is someone we feel would benefit from the programs we set up.

Batforce are running an information session in a few weeks’ time at DPS for all parents or carers that would like to attend. The flyer is attached to the newsletter. Batforce have helped facilitate several therapy groups for 5-6 students this year, including a wood work group and a yoga group.

Camp Australia

Its been a fun filled few weeks at Camp Australia: Drysdale Primary School OSHC. Popular activities have included Perler bead crafts, tennis skills practice, collage making, playing outside on the playground, sprouts, poison ball, dancing and schools’ dramatic play. This week we have planned some fun Halloween themed fun for the children to get into the spirit of the spooky season.

We know its hard to believe given the wet and cold start to spring, but we need to be mindful of the sun and the damage it can cause. Sun Smart hats need to be brought every day to after school care during term 4, especially as we often try to program activities for everyone to enjoy outside in our school grounds to take advantage of these sunny conditions when they occur.
