Drysdale Primary School

School Concert – Thursday 15th September

Our school concert returns this year on Thursday 15th September from 6.00pm to 9.00pm. Each class is performing a song on stage which will be followed, after an interval by a longer performance written and produced by our Year 6 children under the guidance of our Performing Arts teacher, Trent Stephens.

Due to the capacity of the hall, there will be a limit of two tickets per family. Families will be able to purchase their two tickets via Trybooking, from tomorrow Wednesday 24th August at 9.30 am via the following link https://www.trybooking.com/CBYDF. Bookings will be open for one week and will close on 31st August at 12 noon.

If there are tickets still available after this, we will reopen the booking system later in the week for families to book extra if required.

Families are not required to purchase a ticket for DPS students. All students will have an opportunity to watch the other classes earlier in the week. On concert night children will wait in their classroom after their performance and can be collected from there at the interval. Students will then either go home with you or go with you to the hall if you are staying for the Year 6 show.

In order to accommodate as many families and friends as possible there will a matinee performance on Wednesday 14th September. This will be a full dress rehearsal, it may not be as polished and fluent as the night session, but it will still be a great performance and an opportunity for people who are not able to attend the night session to still experience the concert.

No tickets are required for the matinee this is a FREE session.

Indigenous “Welcome To Country” Performance

This Friday 26th of August, we have some very special guests visiting our school to perform a ‘Welcome to Country’ performance at our school. Nikki McKenzie and Norm Stanley will be facilitating a ‘Welcome to country smoking ceremony’ and then a ‘Didgeridoo performance!’

This was the ceremony that was postponed due to illness late last term.

The event will take place at approximately 2:10pm on the basketball courts, just before our usual whole school assembly.

Our own Indigenous students will also play a role on the day.

Parents and guardians are most welcome to attend this very special event. We ask that no photographs be taken during this time.

We hope to see you there!

Parent Opinion Survey

Each year the Education Department sends out a survey to parents and families to gather feedback about how we are doing. This helps guide our strategic planning at a school level as well as giving the Education Department a view across all schools in the state.

A link to allow parents to access the survey was emailed last week. I would encourage all parents to take a moment to respond. All responses are anonymous. If you have mislaid the link information, please contact the school who will be able resend the link.

PC For Kids

PC for Kids is a charity that recycles old computers. From the money they receive from selling these recycled computers, they make donations to school to help provide extra IT equipment.

This year we have received two generous donations from PC for Kids totaling $6,000 that has allowed us to increase the number of netbooks available for our Year 3 children.

I am very grateful to the organisation for supporting our learning programs.

SWPBS And Personal Learning

In 2016 respectful relationships education became a core component of the Victorian Curriculum. The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships teaching and learning resources have been developed to support schools to deliver the curriculum.

The Victorian Curriculum F–10 includes learning about respectful relationships in both Health and Physical Education and Personal and Social Capability. In the Health and Physical Education curriculum, students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to strengthen their sense of self, and build and manage safe and respectful relationships. In the Personal and Social Capability curriculum, students learn to recognise and regulate emotions, develop empathy for others and establish and build a framework for positive relationships. At Drysdale Primary School we teach Personal Learning sessions weekly and also have some Inquiry Learning topics that incorporate this learning even more through the year.

As we move into the second half of this term, our students will be focusing on the ‘Gender and Identity’ component of Respectful Relationships. Learning activities within this topic assist students to challenge stereotypes and critique the influence of gender stereotypes on attitudes and behaviour. They learn about key issues relating to human rights, gender, identity and focus on the importance of respect within relationships. The activities promote respect for diversity and difference. All lessons are age appropriate and guided by resources and lesson plans from DET, that our teams of teachers adapt to suit our students and context. Lessons include learning about their own identity, how others can be similar and different from themselves and how the media can play a part in stereotyping and relate strongly to our value of Acceptance.

Our Kids Matter kids are busily working on videos and the next assembly that links back to Seeking Help when at school. We look forward to seeing you there to share this with you. Kids Matter assembly will be in WEEK 9 this term.

Prep 100 Days Brighter

What a day we had celebrating our 100 days of school. The children came in wonderful, creative t-shirts and outfits. They loved the parade around the school and seeing their buddies and siblings cheer for them.

We decorated biscuits, made glasses and completed lots of fun activities during this special day. The children each received a special certificate in the hall to mark this milestone.

Please see read more for some photos.

Breakfast Club

Happy Birthday to DPS Breakfast Club. We officially turned 1 year old on Friday last week!!! It was a very busy morning for the Club as word spread that we had special birthday banana muffins, lots of fruit cups, fresh fruit and yoghurts, along with the regular cheese, jam or vegemite toasties.

Thank you to Feed Me Bellarine, Baker’s Delight, the Lion’s Club and Uniting Church. These organisations have been so supportive of our Breakfast Club and have really ensured we can keep going at the capacity we are. One year ago we started with just making 6 loaves of toasted cheese sandwiches and now we make 30 loaves of them a week, plus another 8 or more loaves of bread for the jam and vegemite toast. We are also forever grateful to our school community for their support as well. The donations of paper bags, jam, vegemite and margarine have been so generous and so helpful in making sure we can continue our Club twice a week.

Our Kids Matter Kids are also starting to volunteer and help with serving their peers in the morning, which has been so wonderful. Thanks to everyone who has helped out over the past year in one way or another, we appreciate all you do to help us out.

Kate, Kendra and Kylie.

It was great to see everyone’s amazing costumes on Monday to really get Book week 2022 going. This week we have lots of fun related to our facourite books planned. We look forward to learning more about each of the children’s favourite books and book characters.

We are currently experiencing high numbers of bookings, and we unfortunately have reached capacity of children for the number of educators available to work. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes for families, and ask that you help us by cancelling bookings that you no longer need so that someone else who needs it can take the place. This can be done via our Parent portal app, on the phone on 1300 105 343, or online on www.campaustralia.com.au.
