Drysdale Primary School

Term 3

I hope everyone has had a relaxing holiday. It was great to see everyone back in school yesterday. Term 3 is always a busy term.

In the next few weeks there is the school athletics day and swimming. Both will be done differently this year as a result of changes to the Education Department’s parent payment policy.

Athletics will be held on the school oval rather than at Landy Field and will involve the whole school. It has to be held at this time of year because it is a qualifying event for District and Regional Championships that happen later this term.

All children will be offered two days of swimming with those costs covered through state funding to the school. Students will have the opportunity to attend a further three days of swimming, the cost for which is a charge to parents.

Cycling To School / Road Safety Near Misses

I would like remind everyone who cycles to school of the importance of staying safe. We had two incidents yesterday after school when students narrowly avoided accidents because they were not following basic safe practices.

In the first incident students were not crossing Clifton Springs Road with the help of our crossing patrols with the result that one bike was hit by a vehicle coming up the road. Fortunately, the driver was observing the speed restrictions that apply in a school zone and was also watching out for our students. I am very grateful to him for both these things.

A few minutes later a different group cycled straight out across Bayshore Avenue in front of a passing car. They had not stopped or looked. This car was being driven by one of our parents. Only their quick reactions and awareness prevented an accident.

Senior Debating

Some of our Senior students participated in the Barwon Region Debating competition. We had two very strong teams. They worked very hard to argue for and against the topic ‘Digital Technology improves the lives of children’.

The competition was fierce with Point Lonsdale providing some very strong arguments however it was fabulous to see our Drysdale teams providing some very convincing counterarguments. At the end of the debate we were defeated by only 1 point for both teams. We were very proud of every student involved.

Our debating teams worked well together, followed the very strict guidelines and showed fabulous sportsmanship. Well done to all of our debaters. We cannot wait for the next one!

Camp Australia

We hope that the entire Drysdale Primary School community had a relaxing and enjoyable Winter holiday break. It’s hard to believe that the school year is half over already. We hope that those that attended enjoyed our Rocketeers Holiday Program.

In regards to the current Covid situation we ask that if your child tests positive to Covid and has attended OSHC while potentially contagious or was booked into OSHC and now will not attend please contact our Customer Care team on 1300 105 343. This not only helps us follow our Covid Safe Plan and processes, but families will also benefit as they will not have to pay for any sessions of care that a child misses due to having Covid or for other covid related reasons.
