Democracy Sausages And Cake Stall

A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated baked goods for the cake stall, purchased a cake or a sausage, and/or volunteered to make the day so successful! We raised little over $2,000 which will go towards the further development of our outdoor stage area, an AMAZING result!!

There was a large variety of cakes and baked goods donated, it was very pleasing to have our school community come together. There were many compliments about the quality of items donated, so much so the plates were flying off the table and had sold out before lunch! The aroma of the sausages and onions drew in many for a democracy sausage or two. A big thank you to Coles for donating the sausages, and to Bakers Delight for donating the bread. We are very lucky for their support.

A MASSIVE thank you to the volunteers that assisted in this event leading up to the day. A big shout out of thanks to Phil Dunlop-Moore, Nicole Alonso, the Parents and Friends Group, and our wonderful volunteers: Steph, Carissa, Jo, Leanne, Dene, Jac, Alycia, Caitrin, Julie, Nic, John, Jay, Chris, Kylie, Patty, Tara, and Sandra.

Without your help the day wouldn’t have been possible or so successful, THANK YOU!

COVID Changes

There have been some changes to the Education Department requirements. Families are no longer requested to do two Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) each week.

Instead the request is that families complete RATs as necessary e.g. if anyone in the family is displaying COVID symptoms. In the event that someone tests positive, other family members can attend school provided they return negative RATs and wear a mask.

These family members musty complete five RATs across the seven days when whoever is positive is in isolation.

For the remainder of term, the school will continue to distribute RATs for families to use as described above. These will be sent home with students periodically over the next month.

NAPLAN

Most of our Year 3 and Year 5 students have completed their NAPLAN tests. These have been done on line for the first time.

The children have been great and responded very calmly to the tests. They do attend DPS after all!!.

Yesterday I overheard one of our Year 5 student use the word “narcissistic” correctly in a sentence which is a fair reflection of our children’s amazing learning.

It might be that they are more comfortable with the on line format after a couple of years of remote learning. We have also been informed that all schools have been given a further week to allow children to catch up on any missed tests. At DPS all our Year 3 tests are complete. There are a just a handful in Year 5 students who need to complete their tests.

The AP WrAP

Wow what a busy couple of weeks we have had! There has been some amazing learning happening with our Year 3 and 5 students sitting NAPLAN, sporting events, hockey clinics, a visit to the Potato Shed for our Indigenous Leaders to view the  Journey on Wadawurrung Country which was supported by Bellarine Landcare and excursions to the You Yangs for our Senior students. Phew!

The Book Fair was an amazing success with our school gaining $1,300 worth of free books for our library thanks to YOU! Thanks so much to all of our amazing staff who supported the running!

We have had some professional learning for our PLC Leaders this week to build their capacity around leading our teaching and learning teams! This will continue with our third day coming up in early June.
We also have our English consultant coming back this week for two days to support the teaching and learning of spelling across the school.

School Uniform

Our School Council has approved a new uniform policy to reflect recent changes. This is available on our website and will be forwarded to parents via our Sentral Parents’ Portal.

Please note that only uniform that is brown and gold can be worn. Items with other logos e.g. Hawks football jumpers are no longer permitted to be worn at school on regular school days. Jewellery, except stud earrings, is not permitted neither is coloured hair.

We do appreciate your support in helping to make Drysdale Primary School look smart by following the uniform policy.

Our New Indigenous Garden

As part of our senior learning communities big idea “Living things grow and adapt to survive the physical conditions of their environment.” A few select students were involved last Monday in planting Indigenous plants in a new garden space in front of the Art room.

Students planted Flax Lily, salt bush & Running Postman. This garden currently has a yellow mesh frame surrounding it so that the plants have time to settle, grow and prosper.

A special thanks to Lily D, Adam, Xavier, Eli, Will, Hayley, Ella M & Mrs Pierson for their efforts with this project. We have a special ceremony happening towards the end of this term. Details will be forthcoming in future weeks.

Wonder Soft Bread Bag Recycling

“The habits we create in our students now are the habits of the future.”

This year Drysdale Primary School is signed up to participate in the Wonder Recycling Rewards Program. This program can benefit the environment as well as our own school community. By collecting bread bags, we are not allowing soft plastic bags to go into landfill or into our waterways.

We can also help our school, as we will be rewarded and will receive some new sports equipment to benefit all students.

Therefore, to help both the school and the environment please continue to bring your used, clean plastic bread bags to your classroom teacher.

The recycling of these materials is currently being used in building and construction to make new concrete products. Clink on the link below to see how we can all help out.
