Shuffle Up Day

This morning we have enjoyed seeing our students move up to their new classes for 2022. Our Year 6 students have gone to their secondary school and our new Preps have had their final transition session at DPS.

We have spent a lot of time working out the best placement for each child. It was great to see so many happy and smiling faces as I walked round the classes during the transition.

Please see read more for some photos

Class Names for 2022

Please look out for a letter coming home with your child(ren) tonight indicating their class placement in 2022. With the move to composite classes we have altered the designation of classes.

The Year 1/2 classes will be J for Junior followed by their teacher’s initial, for example, Year 1 and Year 2 children being taught by Mrs Bright will be in JB.

The Year 3 and 4 students will be in classes starting with M for middle.

Students in Year 5 and Year 6 will be in classes starting with S for Senior.

Class Placements – Important Information

We have placed children in classes based on their year group and friendship groups. We have also tried to match students to teachers with whom we believe they will thrive.

Composite classes will not alter how we teach, all of our students will be taught whatever they individually need to know next, just as they are now. For example, we can have three students who are all in Year 4 but with very different skills. Currently one might be learning something from the Year 4 curriculum but another student might be learning something from the Year 5 curriculum and the third student might be learning something from the Year 3 curriculum.

Our teachers have the capacity to manage to teach all three levels simultaneously and this will continue to happen. In that sense, the nominal age (year level) of a student does not matter.

Senior Classes

In addition to the above information about class placements, we are applying our personalised learning model more widely across the whole of our senior (Year 5 and Year 6) cohort.

Students will be taught in groups according to what they individually need to learn. Essentially this means that the social and academic organisation of the senior year group will be closer to a single group with five teachers. The groups will move between the large open space, classrooms nearby and smaller learning spaces to suite their learning style and needs.

End Of Year Concert

How exciting! Get your dancing shoes on!! Our school ‘End of Year Concert’ is being held on Friday 10th December 5.00pm to 8.00pm. At 5.00pm families can bring a picnic tea to enjoy on the oval or basketball court. (No alcohol please).

Families can bring their own chair if they wish. At 5.30pm the concert will begin and run until 8.00pm. This will be held outside so all of our families can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and picnic dinner with their families and will be a little different from other concerts at DPS.

You will not need to purchase a ticket for this event. There will be a space reserved near the stage for families of the year group preforming. Families can gather here in this space to watch their students and then make way for the next group.

As this is a school event, attendees will need to be double vaccinated and sign in with the QR code upon entry. There will be an entry point where you can follow these guidelines. If you have already shown your status at the office and have a green card, you only need to sign in with QR code.

We can’t wait to see you all!

Asthma Medication

On the last day of term, we will be sending home all asthma ventolin and spacers with students. Please ensure over the holidays they are cleaned, expiry date checked.

Please ensure they are returned to the school on the first day of school 2022.

If their Asthma Plan is due for a review by your doctor we will need to receive a copy of this on the first day of school in 2022.

Concert Week Build Up – Concert Pre-Recording

On Tuesday 6th December all Prep to Year 6 students participated in an amazing experience with Mr Stephens and Jaren Fulwell recording their concert songs in preparation for Friday’s ‘End of Year Concert’.

All grades did an incredible job and had fun learning the process of vocal recording, staying in time as a group and nailed their tracks. It was a long day in our makeshift studio, and we are all very thankful for Jaren for the use of his recording equipment and skills.

We look forward to performing our concert songs to the community on Friday and getting together as a community to end 2021 with some music!

Hot Shots Tennis

Last Week, Jake Dunn from the Drysdale Tennis Club came to present our Prep students with their very own tennis racquets. The ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Racquet Roadshow is again providing 30,000 racquets to Prep students around Australia, thanks to ANZ and Tennis.

We are one of 774 lucky schools to be receiving racquets. It’s a great opportunity to get our kids moving, both at home and at school! The students have also been given a special certificate to take home to celebrate their new tennis racquets.

ANZ is encouraging all parents/carers to share a picture of their children and their new racquets with the hashtag #RacquetRoadshow

If you are interested in starting tennis, register for a free trial at hotshots.tennis.com.au
