Drysdale Primary School

The AP Wrap

It was so amazing to see our Year 6s head off to camp Toolangi yesterday with some of the best weather forecast! We had some nervous feelings along with some very excited ones! I am sure they will come back on Friday with some fabulous stories!

Breakfast Club is extremely popular! We are currently serving approximately 150 students which equates to about 15 loaves of bread each time the club is open. Students who have not had breakfast take priority. We would love to provide ‘additional brekky’ however some days this is not possible. If your child comes home saying they didn’t get any brekky, it will be because we have run out and were at capacity! We would like to thank all of our staff who are currently running the program and volunteering their time to toast and serve! We will share more information around how families can support this program in 2022.

Our 2022 Preps had their third transition session today and my goodness they are loving it! Next week will see them come on Tuesday 7th December when the whole school will be participating in ‘Shuffle Up Day.’ This will occur from 9:30am where staff and students for 2022 will be in their new classes and spaces. Our Year 6 students will attend their new high schools! We wish them all the best!

The Junior School Council are holding a PJ day on Thursday December 9th! This is to raise money for the Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS). Students are asked to wear school appropriate PJs and bring a gold coin donation.

There has been a large amount of work completed to prepare new curriculum documentation to support teaching and learning in 2022. Both Kate and Nic along with our Learning Specialists Mike and Amy have developed Scope and Sequence documents to support staff in planning differentiated English and Maths for all students. Some members of our SWPBS team, Kate, Rachel B, Rachel E and Mitch B have also spent a lot of time devising a Scope and Sequence for the DET Respectful Relationships curriculum and are currently seeking feedback from students around a revised Matrix for 2022.

We were fortunate enough to have BATforce support some our students through a woodwork program this term. They had a great time designing, drilling, sanding, painting and building a large Jenga. Students even developed and added positive affirmation statements to all of the blocks!

End of Year is coming fast! As always if you require any further support please don’t hesitate to contact either Kate or Nic at school.

Please see read more for Jenga photos.

Year 3 & 4 Harmonica Incursion

Unfortunately we have had to cancel our Year 3 & 4 Harmonica Incursion for 2021. We know the students (and Mr Stephens) were very much looking forward to this exciting new activity, however after two postponements and a very busy end of term calendar we haven’t been able to secure a new date.

Families who paid for this activity have received a credit on their account – you may wish to use this towards end of year celebrations. If you do, please send an email to our Admin Team via drysdale.ps@education.vic.gov.au

We thank you all for your understanding and a big thank you to Mr Stephens for trying so many times to make this event happen for our students.

Year 3 Cave Hill Creek Camp

Year 3 had a great time on camp. They participated in many new activities, visited Sovereign Hill and came home exhausted!!!!

Evelyn – At first I was a bit scared because I haven’t been away from both of my parents before but it was a fun camp and in archery I hit the target.

Owen – I really liked camp and I cannot believe how good the food was. The activities we did were amazing. My favourite was archery because I got a bullseye.

Maeve – My favourite part of camp was in my cabin because I got to have fun with my friends. Building the huts in the bush was fun too but Mr Nelson tricked us into thinking we were going to have to sleep in them. I really liked the mapping activity.

Sid – I really liked doing the bouldering because I have done it before so I got nearly all the way around. I liked it when Mrs Croxford was brave and caught a huntsman spider under the table and released it outside.

Mariah – My favourite part of camp was going to Sovereign Hill. We got to see different types of houses and spent a little bit of time trying to find gold in the creek. At the camp we went on a bush walk and that was good fun too.

Zane – On the bush walk we saw one wallaby and three kangaroos who were sitting on the path. Then on the mapping activity we had to find poles with letters and numbers on them. I found all of them.
