Drysdale Primary School

Last Day of Term 3 – Friday 17th September – Early Finish at 2:30pm

Term 3 finishes this Friday at 2:30pm. It has been a challenging term that has tested everyone’s resilience, we truly thank you all for working with us throughout it.

It has been great to have our youngest students back onsite, but we are definitely missing the children in Years 3 to 6. At present there is no news about arrangements for next term.

Once an announcement has been made regarding Term 4, we will share the information with our school community as soon as possible. We really hope to be able to welcome back all of our students onsite!

I would like to thank our whole community for your support and the very positive messages.

Student Parent Teacher Conference

Thank you to all the families who have taken part in our student, parent teacher conferences over the last couple of days. The overwhelming feedback I have received has been positive.

It is a fantastic reflection of the way in which children, staff and parents have come together to maintain the best education we can in the circumstances.

COVID Tests

There have been a number of exposure sites listed in the Drysdale and Clifton Springs community. Please keep an eye on the state’s coronavirus website as these listings often appear on the website before they are announced in press conferences.

If anyone has been asked to quarantine because they attended a Tier 1 site, please let us know. These conversations will be treated as confidential. This will help us with our risk management.

COVID Vaccinations for Children Aged 12 and Over

We received the following information from the Department of Education & Training. This applies to some of our Year 6 students.

“As part of the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out, from Monday, 13 September, all Victorians aged 12 and older eligible to book and receive a COVID-19 vaccine  at a state vaccination centre, a Commonwealth vaccination centre, or through a GP clinic, pharmacy or community health service. Vaccination bookings for students should be made by following the instructions under the heading ‘How to book an appointment’.

Vaccination is not mandatory but is strongly encouraged. Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect our school community from further outbreaks and the spread of COVID-19.

The Victorian Government’s aim is to provide an opportunity for all children aged 12 years and older to receive at least one vaccine dose by the end of the school year.”

This is the link to the eligibility checker

I would like to reach out to members of our community who operate cleaning businesses for a quote for your company to take on this task on the third Sunday of each month from October 2021 to May 2022.

If you are interested, please contact me at school or by email philip.dunlop-moore@education.vic.gov.au.

NAPLAN 2021

The school received our NAPLAN results from the tests taken in May. These have been posted home to individual families. I would like to congratulate our children for their resilience and learning during some difficult times. Overall the results show an improvement on over previous years at both year 3 and year 5 especially in Reading.

The other very pleasing part is that the results for children who need additional support are significantly better than for similar children across the state. Taken overall it is clear that the work we do to identify each child’s individual ability and to develop their learning accordingly is having considerable success.

Strong performances are the result of a positive partnership between teachers, parents and children. We know we have exceptional teachers and talented children. Over this last year the wonderful contribution by parents has never been more important and never been more valued.

The AP WrAP

It has certainly been a big term – three lockdowns, three periods of remote learning, Student Led Conferences, swimming and athletics days. But we have all made it to the last week. Thank you to all our families that have been so supportive through the term, especially with remote learning.

We truly do have an amazing school community and together we have achieved another great term of learning in extraordinary circumstances! Please enjoy the two weeks break, we hope you get to see family, friends and even get away to somewhere in Regional Victoria for a day or longer!!

Breakfast Club began earlier this term, happening on Friday mornings and the turnout of students has been amazing. Students onsite during lockdown have enjoyed a toasted cheese sandwich on Friday’s to keep momentum of the club going.

We are so grateful to a couple of businesses in our community – Bendigo Bank and Baker’s Delight – who have very generously made donations to our school in support of the Breakfast Club. We look forward to continuing and expanding on the Club in Term 4!

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The 2021 Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is quickly coming to an end. This FRIDAY, September 17th, is the last day for students to add books to their reading challenge. After Friday, unfortunately, no more books are able to be added.

Well done to the many students who have successfully completed the challenge so far. There have been more than 1300 books read by the students of Drysdale Primary School which is an amazing effort!

Early in Term 4, the student from each year level who read the most books during the challenge will receive a Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge lapel pin! Students who successfully completed the challenge will receive a Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge certificate towards the end of the year.

Thank you once again to all of those students who have been involved in the challenge this year and we look forward to next year being even more successful than this year!
