We have reviewed the arrangements for our school concert in response to COVID restrictions. Our concert will now happen in two parts.
Our Year 6 students will present their concert item during the first week of November in the Hall.
The rest of our year levels will perform on the oval on Thursday, December 9th.
The separation is to avoid clashes for the Year 6 children with their camp in late November and then graduation in the last week of Term 4. We will provide more details of the arrangements in Term 4.

Our school camps program is going ahead in Term 4 with camps offered to our students from Years 3-6. This is a reminder that the final payment for camp is due no later than September 6th.
All of our camps, including our Year 6 camp, are located in regional Victorian venues in 2021. Families who have been with our community for a long time will notice that our Year 6 cohort are not heading to Canberra as they have in previous years. Further additional information about our Year 6 Camp is being sent directly to the families of students who are attending this camp.
If you are unsure if you have a balance owing on camp for your child, please contact our Administration Team. Our Admin Team are able to provide you with a copy of your family statement and BPAY details upon request, please send an email to drysdale.ps@education.vic.gov.au if you would like to request an up-to-date copy of your statement.
Please be aware that it is a condition of attending camp that payments are made in full by the due date. If there are families who have been impacted financially by the recent lockdowns who are struggling to make this payment, please contact the school prior to September 6th.
After missing the program in 2020 we hope everyone is looking forward to camp this year!

We have recently sent out letters to families confirming enrolments for children starting in Prep next year. With nearly 60 acceptances our enrolments are already higher than this year.
If you have a child due to start school in 2022 but have not yet returned our enrolment form, please can you make this a priority for the next couple of weeks as we need to confirm staffing before our orientation program starts in the first couple of weeks next term.

Last week our School Captains featured on the front of The Geelong Advertiser as part of their school leaders supplement. It has been a challenging year for all of our student leaders. They have responded magnificently and been highly visible, strong role models for the other students.

It was very exciting to see our students back to swimming lessons and being able to finish the program! There was lots of smiling faces from all the students, and even the teachers as restrictions eased and allowed us to attend!
Caleb, Jaxon and Max in 1T were working hard when we popped in to see some amazing writing. They were working hard on their spelling and making sure they were sitting neatly on the line and had correct spacing in between their words! Well done!
Prep students were busily working on their phonics program this morning Ryder shared his learning with us! There were so many students who received Success and Integrity tokens that I can’t list them all! Ryder from Prep O came by our office and shared his 100 days of Prep work and Year 1 were working hard on descriptive writing around The Gruffalo text!
What an amazing and busy week of learning!

This Friday morning Drysdale PS will be opening a small Breakfast Club to support students in our community that need a healthy start to the day with some breakfast. There are many students that have the opportunity to eat before they come to school but this Breakfast Club is for students who may not always have such opportunities.
Our school values attendance and engagement with learning and feel that offering some healthy foods to students will support them in starting their day well and being successful at school.
Students can attend Breakfast Club from this Friday morning, from 8:30 – 8:55am, where they can have some fruit, toast or a toasted cheese sandwich before heading to class. Breakfast Club is located in the small kitchen in the Year 1-2 building.
If this is successful, we hope to offer a wider variety of food choices and open up on more days of the week.
We would like to thank the Bendigo Bank – Drysdale – for sponsoring Breakfast Club and helping purchase equipment to get things up and running. Thank you to Kate Wojcik and Kendra Kowalik for implementing this program to support our students.

Last Wednesday we successfully held our House Athletics competition at Landy Field. Although it lacked some atmosphere without our spectators, the students weren’t deterred and gave their best effort all day.
It was so pleasing to see great examples of sportsmanship, encouraging each other to do their best in each event.
A huge thank you to the volunteers who were able to help on the day, making sure each event ran smoothly. Without volunteers from our school community these days are unable to run, so again, thank you.
Results will be announced and ribbons will be presented once the discus event has been completed back at school. We were unable to hold this on the day.
A huge thank you to Mr Sinnott for organising our Aths Day!

Book week is fast approaching and is one of our favourite times of the year to celebrate the books and authors we love!
This year’s theme is ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds.’
To celebrate Book Week this year we will be having a PJ day on Friday 27th August. We are encouraging students (and staff!) to come to school dressed in their pyjamas and to share their favourite books that take them to other worlds!
We will confirm closer to the date regarding COVID restrictions and the running of a parade.
We look forward to getting comfortable in our PJs and exploring new worlds together!

We are incredibly proud of our Drysdale Primary School Preps for reaching the special milestone of 100 days of school. To celebrate this achievement we dressed up with the theme of ‘100 Days Brighter’, iced and decorated special ‘100’ biscuits and participated in some fun learning activities too. Not only were our outfits bright, but we had beautiful bright attitudes and brains today too!

We love hearing about our former students going on to achieve bigger and better things. So, we were thrilled to hear about the recent success of Summer De Vries who has had her original recording featured on Triple J’s Unearthed, a program designed to discover new Australian musical talent.
Triple J Unearthed has helped launch the musical careers of many successful Australian acts including Silverchair, Grinspoon, Killing Heidi and Missy Higgins.
Summer finished at Drysdale PS in 2017 and was well remembered for her amazing performance in the Year 6 concert in that year. She is now in Year 10 and we are very proud of her for continuing a passion that was developed and nurtured here.
You can hear her song, titled ‘Walking with the Moon’ at https://www.triplejunearthed.com/artist/summer-de-vries

After a confusing couple of days of lockdown and then being not in lockdown we are back in the swing of things at Camp Australia Drysdale Primary School OSHC. We apologise to all families who were impacted by the issue we’ve had with our role last week.
This week, August 16th – 20th, join us for an exciting week all about the science of food! Learn about how we use food to fuel our lives and experiment with everyday foods to make awesome chemical reactions and see the magic of cause & effect!, including our feature activity, fizzy fun. In this activity children get to create their very own fizzy sherbet and learn about how the ingredients used to make it react when they hit their tongues and start to fizz.
