COVID Restrictions

I am sure we can all empathise with Sydney based families starting home schooling today. It is a reminder that we need to remain vigilant and keep doing the right things to ensure that we all stay safe. There are recent changes in Victoria that affect arrangements at school. Staff are no longer required to wear masks in school unless they are meeting with parents or people from outside our community.

Parents and visitors must still wear masks and check in with the QR codes if they come inside to the office or to speak to a teacher in their classroom.

We are allowed to run excursions. This includes swimming provided we comply with some additional restrictions.

We are still not allowed to hold assemblies with parents present unless we comply with density limits. Even though our hall is large, when the whole school is present we do not have enough space to have parents or other visitors. It is frustrating but necessary. We thank you all for your ongoing understanding and cooperation.

Staff Changes

There are some staff changes happening around the school. Kellie Thomas (5/6T) and James Field (4DF) have accepted teaching roles at Chilwell PS and Ocean Grove PS respectively. We wish Kellie and James all the very best at their new schools! Their roles here are being covered by Ms Lea Mendelson (5/6T) and Mrs Nicole Hyndman (4DF). Lea has been part of our DPS community as a casual relief teacher for a few years and worked with our Year 3 team in 2020, many students will already be familiar with Ms Mendelson. Nicole has also worked in a casual capacity at DPS across different year levels. We are very excited to welcome both of these experienced teachers to our team.

Tara Wearne who has been part of our Administration Team be finishing at Drysdale PS on Friday to take on a new role.

Semester 1 Reports

Semester 1 reports will be available through the Parent Portal from next Thursday. Linked to the reports, parents will be able to view our Continuum Tracker records for your child/children.

The Continuum Tracker shows which elements of the curriculum your child/children has learnt. This refinement allows us to focus in the reports on how your child/children work in class.

We hope that you enjoy the change of style and find this combination more useful.

The AP WrAP

Welcome back to Term 3 everyone!! We hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable break with your families and ready for the term ahead.

Students have gotten off to a great start this week and have been settling back into the school routines. Ryder and Ella from Prep O were able to share their holiday recounts with us, showing some great handwriting and spelling skills. Isaiah from 2E also shared a rhyming poem with us where he had written about playing games. We can’t wait to see more student work and success through the term!!

RDA is back on for 4 of our students this term, beginning on Friday in Week 2. This is a great opportunity to learn more about horses and build self-confidence.

Mrs Alonso will be attending the GRIP Leadership conference this Friday with four of our school leaders! We are certainly looking forward to working together as a team and with other schools to develop leadership skills, styles and develop ideas.
“The GRIP Student Leadership Conference is unique in that it concentrates specifically on training student leaders for their role as SCHOOL LEADERS. The style, topics, and content of this conference all focus on what the students can do RIGHT NOW. Our goal is that your student leaders would leave our conference with a clear vision, a solid understanding and dozens of ideas for their time as a leader.”
Also, stay tuned to coming editions of The Link to hear more about a Breakfast Club that will be starting at our school later this term. We are very lucky to have gained sponsorship from the local Bendigo Bank and are in the planning stages to offer this service to our school community. More details will be shared in the coming weeks!!!

Year 1 Writing

The Year 1s were extra engaged during the last weeks of Term 2 while they were learning to write interesting information reports about animals. These reports included important facts describing the diets, habitats and appearances of different Australian animals.

Students learnt about contents pages, glossaries, sub-headings and the importance of labelled diagrams. All our Year 1s were super excited to share their writing with their classmates and teachers as they read them aloud to each other. As teachers, we were very pleased with their writing! We had implemented many of the skills that we gained during our professional development on our previous two pupil free days.

Well done to all our students on their amazing writing efforts and we look forward to seeing what else they can produce this term.
