Drysdale Primary School

Uniform Design

Our School Council has been reviewing our school uniform and completing the tender process for our supplier contract. As part of the process we are inviting adults and children to make suggestions for the design of our uniform and to comment on the uniform items that you would like to be included in our uniform range.

Designs and suggestions should be sent to the school’s email drysdale.ps@education.vic.gov.au by the first day of term 3, Monday July 12th.

We are particularly looking for designs for:

· School shirts

· House shirts

· Jumpers / jackets

Designs should reflect our school colours – brown and gold. They should not include other colours (except house shirts). We are keen to increase the amount of gold and reduce the amount of brown.

Junior School Council Fundraiser – Tomorrow Thursday 24th June

Each term our Junior School Council hold a fundraising event to support a charity of relevance to our community. This term we have chosen to hold a casual dress day tomorrow, Thursday June 24th – the last day of term – to support people facing the challenges of being homeless.

In return for a gold coin donation, children can come to school wearing casual dress i.e. not school uniform.

The COVID pandemic has created extra challenges for people who are homeless or living in insecure accommodation. Lockdowns and the reductions in casual employment are bringing more people to the point where they cannot maintain their accommodation. When these challenges are added to the cold winter, the outlook for people having to live on the streets is very bleak.

We are trying to highlight this issue within our school community to help our children gain an understanding of the wider world in which they live.

The AP WrAP

The end of term is here and what a term we have had. A short lockdown part way through to mix things up for us again but some great achievements and events that happened early on in the term, with Cross Country, incursions, excursions, Book Fair, NAPLAN and some wonderful learning across the school. We can’t wait to get back here after the 2 week break to continue creating more great memories and learning experiences.

Over the past week we have been able to visit many classes across the school to share in their learning experiences. In Year 2 students have been writing some great information reports about animals, gathering facts from online and book resources. They have been learning about time and playing games in small groups to build their understanding of this concept.

In Prep, students have been writing some descriptive sentences and we can see the amazing progress they have made since the start of the year to be confident writers, having a go at sounding out and spelling tricky words.

In Year 3 students have been investigating their Inquiry topic around Australia’s history, with students researching the answers to their wonder wall questions.

Across the senior school students are working on their own inquiry projects and we are keen to see the end products of their learning.

Thank you all for your continued support through a long, cold and at times, challenging, term. We hope you all enjoy the 2 week break and look forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces back on July 12.

SWPBS – Enjoyment in Art

Throughout this Term many year levels have been enjoying the tactile experience of using clay in Visual Art sessions.

Year 3/4B have created some beautiful insects. They practised their drawing skills and transferred this into their clay building.

Keep an eye out for these little creatures in and around our garden next Term.

Year 6’s are working hard creating their own clay masterpiece. We look forward to showcasing these in our upcoming school Art Show in Term 4.

Prep Every Family In Our Community

The Prep team have been exploring the Big Idea ‘Every Family in our Community is Unique’ and as part of this, they have looked at different celebrations around the world.

Our focus for this week was exploring the kite festivals that are held all over the world. As part of our learning, students created their own individual kites which they enjoyed flying outside on the oval.

Everyone had a marvellous time!

Attendance

During Term 2 our school’s Attendance Policy was reviewed and updated. Recording and maintaining accurate attendance records is very important and we appreciate that many of you are very organised and let the school know of your child’s absences. You can do this via the Sentral Parent Portal app or by emailing the school drysdale.ps@education.vic.gov.au as the preferred methods.

One change in this policy is around the notification of unexplained absences. Currently an email has been sent out to all families that have an unexplained absence at 11am each day. Through reflection we have found that 11am is too late in the day and so this same email notification of absence will now hit your inbox at 9:45am.

This change will allow the school staff to know of absence reasons a lot sooner and to have more time to follow up on attendance with families.

If you need any support with having your child/ren attend school please contact the school via email or phone to arrange a meeting with one of our Principal Leaders, Kate, Nic or Phil. We are always happy to chat and support our families to have your child/ren at school as often as we can.

Miss Howard and 12H were super excited to read ‘A Fish that Wished.’

This gorgeous text was written and illustrated by the very talented Casey Benson, mum of Eli in Year 6.
