Drysdale Primary School

End Of Term 1

We are nearly at the end of Term 1 already. Please note that school finishes next Thursday 1st April at 2.30 pm. There are lots of things happening between now and the end of term including Cross Country for children in years 3 to 6 today.

Next week there are the Student Led Conferences on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th March after school. Bookings are available through the parent portal/app and close on Monday morning. We are very much looking forward to sitting down with students and their parents to share their learning this term.

There is also our Slime Spectacular on Wednesday 31st March. Information about this has already been sent home.

Pupil Free Day – Friday April 23rd

Our third pupil free day is taking place on Friday April 23rd. This is part two of the excellent professional learning we had yesterday about helping children become writers.

Please note that the school will be closed to students on this day. The fourth and final pupil free day is most likely to be in term 4 and will be set to coincide with our school review. At present we do not have a precise date for the review. Once this is final I will let our school community know.

Drysdale Community Market

Drysdale Community Market

There was another very successful market last Sunday. Despite the weather, we were full with all stalls booked. We also ran a very successful Easter Raffle that was very well supported by the community. Ticket sales raised $750 to go towards the construction of our Outdoor Stage.

I would like to thank Jac Absolom for co-ordinating the market and organizing the raffle. There was a team of parents and staff whom I also want to thank and acknowledge Julie Penfold and Kev McCoughtry who help with the set-up, Kylie King, Sandra Mockli, Laura Howard, Carissa Ainsworth, Kylie Fraser, Kate Wojcik and Nic Alonso.

Sometime on Saturday evening the market A frame sign which stands on the corner of High Street and Granville Street disappeared. If anyone sees this abandoned in Drysdale, please can you let the school know so that we can collect it.

The AP WrAP

On Friday March 19, four of our students were extremely excited to attend their first RDA session for 2021! Adam had a great time on Floyd, Emma on Millie, Ewan on Annie and Cameron rode Comanche! The students practised mounting and getting off their horses safely. Some even got a little trot going!

On Friday April 23rd, we have our curriculum day and this is meant to be our second session of RDA. RDA have agreed to let our families take our students so they don’t miss out which is fabulous!

Have you registered and started fundraising for Slime Spectacular yet?????? It is only 1 Week away! We hope you are all as excited as we are!!!!

Please see read more for photos.

Year 4 Geelong Library Excursion

Last Thursday, the Year 4 students went on an excursion to the Geelong Library as part of our Inquiry big idea ‘Australian laws and values reflect our local democratic society’. The students thoroughly enjoyed a tour of the Geelong Library, where they explored the services provided by the library and had story time with one of the librarians. We also walked around the Geelong CBD to explore a range of other local services Geelong has to offer.

Tilly – I learnt that the Queen has been to Geelong because we saw plaque at the Geelong council building.
Alannah – I enjoyed exploring all of the books at the Geelong Library.
Harry – I enjoyed listening to the stories in the Geelong Library. My favourite book was ‘I say Ooh you say Ahh’.
Jack L – I learnt that the Geelong Library has Xbox’s that the public can use. I enjoyed being allowed to yell during story time at the library.
Sophie – I liked when the librarian read ‘The Book With No Pictures’.
Manaia – I enjoyed reading funny books in the Geelong Library.
Tilly W – We walked around the block and we saw the Geelong Train Station and the Geelong Council building, we also found out that the Queen has been to Geelong.
Maya – I enjoyed eating lunch at Johnstone Park and playing games with the other Year 4’s.

Summer Lightning Premiership

A Summer Lightning Premiership was held last week for this first time and we were so fortunate that Summer decided to reappear. We had a number of teams head off to Cricket, Basketball, T-Ball, Volleycatch and Tennis where they competed in their newly reorganised Corangamite District.

It was a wonderful opportunity for our children to not only head off on an excursion (some hadn’t been on one since 2019) but to also finally play some interschool sport (for the first time for all Years 5s and 6s). In true Drysdale fashion, we played all sports with a terrifically positive attitude, regardless of the results, and were well supported by a number of parent volunteers and supporters across the Bellarine.

We were fortunate enough to come away with three Champions flags with victories in the Mixed Volleycatch, Boys T-Ball and Girls T-Ball. The two T-Ball teams have now qualified for the Bellarine Division, which will be played later in Term 2.

Thank you to Mr Sinnott who coordinated this big day and all the Year 5 and 6 teachers who managed the sports and coached the teams.

Click read more for photos of the champion teams.

Slime Spectacular – Next Week!

The Slime Spectacular is now only 8 days away. Yes, that is right, it is next week! Here is a list of last-minute updates.

Coloured headbands

Our coloured headbands arrived this week and they are going to look fantastic (check out fabulous Year 6s modelling them in the photo). The House Captains will be going around to classes over the next few days, selling these to students for a gold coin donation. They will also be available at the Slime Spectacular.

Fundraising profiles

Thank you to those who have been busy fundraising. Our Grand Total has just ticked over $9000. Amazingly, only 132 out of our 438 students have actually created an online fundraising profile and they have raised this much. If we can get as many of those other students to create a profile and raise just $5-$10, we could easily smash our goal of $10,0000.

Profiles can be created at myprofilepage.com.au.

Parent Volunteers

Every Slime Station now has at least one volunteer. Remember, these are guaranteed to be the best seats in the house when the kids run the course. Volunteers also get access to the Volunteer Run, where some lucky students get to return the sliming!

If you would like to secure one of the remaining spots, sign up at https://signup.com/go/PzBwkPO

Slime the Teachers/Volunteers/Principals

Positions along the course to slime either the Teacher/Parent Volunteer Run or the Principals’ Run will be available for sale from tomorrow. These will cost $10 and will allow the holder to a position on one of the obstacles for one of the runs.

Tickets will be available from tomorrow from the Assistant Principal’s office. Please place the $10 note in a named envelope along with either the Teacher/Parent Run or the Principals Run. They may also be for sale at the Slime Spectacular (if they are still available).

Guess the Easter Egg Competition

The Junior School Council are running a Guess the Easter Egg Competition.

We have filled up a jar with heaps of Easter Eggs. Children can guess how many they think there are in the jar. The student who guesses correctly (or gets closest without going over) wins the entire jar!

A single guess costs 50c and there are 420 numbers to choose from. Students are welcome to purchase more than one guess.

The JSC will be selling these numbers at recess next to the Canteen starting tomorrow, right up until the Slime Spectacular (next Wednesday).

The winner will be announced at the conclusion of the Slime Spectacular.

Happy guessing!

SWPBS

Our students love our RAISE tokens!

Students can receive a token for showing a school value. R-Resilience, A-Acceptance, I-Integrity, S-Success and E-Enjoyment.
Each week we learn about a school value connected to our SWPBS Matrix and how we can show that value in all aspects of school life.

There are variety of incentives that students can cash tokens in for. The more the tokens students earn related to positive behaviours, the better the incentive.
We cannot wait to see our students enjoying their chosen incentives!

Log onto the Camp Australia parent portal to find out more and to register your child for the competition.
