Drysdale Primary School

Family Dance Night

This Thursday from 5pm-7:30pm is our Family Dance Night. This is an evening for our school community to come to together to celebrate the start of the school year, make contact with new families and old friends while the children have fun dancing. Despite the much welcomed reduction in COVID restrictions, there are still some requirements that we need to follow.

Most importantly is to scan the QR code on arrival or to register your attendance on the paper lists. The QR codes will be displayed at the entrances to the oval.

This year the event will be held outdoors on the oval. We are inviting families to bring a rug (to support appropriate social distancing) and a picnic. Please note that there will not be any food available to buy at the event this year. Changes to restrictions were too late for arrangements to be altered. As this is a primary school event, it must also be alcohol free.

Moving the event to be fully outside with no inside alternative available, means that it is weather dependent. We will advise families via Sentral Parent Portal and Facebook if the weather is not looking good!!

It will be so amazing to have a whole school event again!

Uniform, Jewellery and Long Hair

Further to my letter to parents at the end of last week, please can I repeat that School Council has agreed that we will retain our colours of gold and brown. We will continue the process of identifying a supplier for our uniform as our current contract finishes in May.

It is expected that all students wear our uniform to school. We do have a significant amount of second-hand uniform that will be available for a gold coin donation per item. There will be a second-hand uniform sale at Family Dance Night in the portable classroom near the back of the hall.

Jewellery, other than stud earrings, are not permitted to be worn at school.

Long hair must be tied back. Your cooperation with these requirements is appreciated.

Pupil Free Days

Each year government schools hold four pupil free days to assist with staff professional learning. Our School Council has approved the second and third of our days to be Monday March 22nd and Friday April 23rd. (The first was on January 27th).

On these days we will be working on extending our understanding of developing children as writers. The fourth pupil free day will be in term 4. This will be linked to our school review once we know the precise dates for this.

Assembly

The restrictions relating to assembly are unchanged despite the reductions in other restrictions. We can hold assemblies attended just by staff and students. As soon as there are any “external guests (parents/carers/visitors)” the density limits of 1 person per 2 square meters including students and staff apply. This also applies if we were to hold assemblies outside.

We are hopeful that, if Victoria continues on its positive trajectory, we will soon ab able to welcome our whole community to important events such as assembly.

State Wide Positive Behaviour Support – SWPBS

This year is off to a great start. Classes have worked through the new Start Right program to develop routines, behaviours and expectations and build calm and orderly learning environments. It is great to see the consistent approaches across teams and year levels and seeing students know how to show positive behaviour in class and the yard.

To help support students further with positive choices in the yard, some of our wonderful teaching staff have volunteered to run lunch time activities to help students that need it. These ‘clubs’ started in Week 5 and so far have been a hit, with students joining Mr Field for card games on a Friday or Walk and Talk around the oval on a Tuesday with Mrs Alonso, drawing and colouring in with Mrs Croxford and Mr Kennedy on a Monday or other clubs that have continued from 2020 such as garden club and the library. Student have been very engaged and enjoying the different options through the lunch break. It is hoped that these types of activities will encourage positive choices and reduce incidents in the yard.

Please see read more for a photo of our walking group.

Second Hand Uniform Shop

The Junior School Council have been very busy setting up our new Second Hand Uniform Shop which is now located in the portable classrooms closest to the hall.

We have a huge range of jumpers, polo shirts, shorts and tracksuit pants to choose from.

Our Grand Opening will be at this week’s Family Dance Night from 5:30pm. The Junior School Councillors are very excited and would love to see lots of parents picking up some bargains.

As we have so much stock, we are starting off with the special price of a gold coin donation per item.

From next week onwards, it will be open twice a week on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 – 9:30am and Friday afternoons from 3:15 – 3:45pm. We would like to thank Alicia Dimitrijevski who has volunteered to run the shop during these times.

The Junior School Council will also be opening the shop during whole school events throughout the year, such as Concert and Student-Led Conferences.

Finally, we are now prepared to start receiving donations of good quality, clean uniforms that children may have out-grown. These can be dropped off into the box that is located in the front office and will be used to restock the Second Hand Uniform Shop.

Slime Spectacular

We are very excited to announce that on Wednesday 31 March, we are hosting a Slime Spectacular!

The Slime Spectacular will be quite similar to the Colour Run of 2018, although instead of getting covered in coloured powder, this year we will be getting covered in coloured slime!

The Slime Spectacular will be one of our major fundraisers for the year and all money raised will go towards the construction of an outdoor stage, to be installed in the Quiet Area, outside the Music Room.

We have set a fundraising target of $10,000 to get this much-needed project up and running.

Click read more for more details about this very exciting event.

2021 Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF)

Every Victorian child should have access to the world of learning opportunities that exist beyond the classroom. The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) helps ensure that no student will miss out on the opportunity to join their classmates for important, educational and fun activities. It is part of making Victoria the Education State and the Government’s commitment to breaking the link between a student’s background and their outcomes.

If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families. The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child.

Please find the CSEF form attached to print out and hand to the school office, you can also find a copy in the resources tab on the sentral parents portal. Please note these are due back by the end of Term 2.
