Class Teachers 2021

We have been very busy in completing our staffing profile for 2021. While we still have a few positions to finalise, our classroom teacher placements for next year have been determined and are as follows:

Prep: Ingrid Orvis, Lizzie Elliott, Rachel Bright
Year 1: Dani Thompson, Rebecca Hoyne
Year 1/2: Laura Howard
Year 2: Amy Wright, Rachel Everett
Year 3: Lucy Croxford, Michael Nelson
Year 3/4: Mitch Bruns
Year 4: Caitlyn Evans, Denise Dean/James Field
Year 5: Josh Burnie, Mona George/ Brooke Burgess
Year 5/6: Kellie Thomas
Year 6: Shane Kennedy, Tash Daffy

Allocating students to classes is an immensely complicated and a lengthy process. Our staff know the students and do their absolute best in ensuring your child will be placed with a teacher and class to best support their educational and wellbeing needs.

We appreciate the great amount of trust our families place with us each year in determining these structures. We respect parents/carers’ views where these are based on the educational needs of your child. Please bear in mind that it is not always possible to fulfil class/teacher placement wishes.

We thank you for your understanding.

COVID Restrictions Term 4

We have all been very relieved with the reduction in restrictions in Victoria over the last few weeks. I have been asked about when we will relax restrictions at Drysdale Primary School. As a school we are bound by the directions given to us by the Department of Education and Training.

We receive weekly updates with changes to our operational practice arising from announcements made on the previous weekend. These updates usually arrive late on Tuesday evenings.

So, for example, I am expecting today’s update to include information about how the relaxation on the requirement to wear a face mask affects schools. Whenever there are significant changes we will communicate these to our community through via the Parent Portal, our Sentral communication system.

Drysdale Primary School Annual General Meeting – Tuesday 8th December at 6pm

All government schools hold an Annual General Meeting at which we present our annual report for the previous year. Normally these meetings are held in May but have been delayed by COVID restrictions.

This year’s meeting will be at 6 pm on Tuesday 8th December . Unless restrictions are eased, this will be held using the WebEx on line meeting platform.

Further information about joining the meeting will be provided to school families along with a copy of the Annual Report for 2019 shortly.

The AP WrAP

The end of term is fast approaching and there is a lot of excitement for end of year events and celebrations. We look forward to joining classes, students and staff for the celebrations in the coming weeks.

Ewan and Kameryn from Prep came by the office to share their work about the weather. Kameryn’s poster was bright and colourful and shared facts about the sun and rain. She was very proud of this work. Ewan read his weather report that shared facts about the wind, temperature and forecast. He spoke clearly and was also very proud of his report.

Zara from Year 4 shared her presentation about Albert Jacka, a World War One veteran. Her presentation was well research and showed her understanding of the importance of Remembrance Day.

This past week also saw some students ‘cash in’ their hard earned Values Tokens and be Principal for a double session (100 minutes). Sophie and Ruby have put this report together for you.

Our time as Principal was awesome! We wore ties and a Principal badge and felt very special. We visited classes and handed out values tokens to students and looked at their work. We walked around a lot and then got to have ice cold water in the staff room. It was special when we handed out 200 Club certificates to people in 3M and laminated their photos for the wall in the office. We had a meeting with the Principal team and talked about how to improve the school. We can’t wait to be Principal again!”

I would like to thank Amy Wright and Lucy Croxford for stepping out of their class and into the other Assistant Principal’s chair while Nicole was on leave. Thank you both for your support and hard work over the past two weeks.

Year 5 Point of View – The Murray Daring Basin

Last week the Year 5’s were looking at different points of view and presenting their arguments to support this. They researched the Murray Daring Basin. In groups they looked at the point of view of the Farmers, Conservationists and Indigenous communities.

Here is a sample of their points of views:

“The water is not only our food and water its our life. If we look after the water the water will look after us. We don’t own the water the water owns us” – Haylee and Amy for the Indigenous community

“We don’t use more water than what is allocated to us, the cotton crops aren’t as thirsty as some people say. We are not the reason there is a shortage of water ” – Jasmine, Gisele and Prue for The Farmers

“The water in the Murray Darling basin is very important for many species of animals, if there is too much water being taken from the basin this is leading to animals dying and droughts. The policies are not looking at the scientific side of things which is that if there is a small part of the basin that has limited water it affects the whole river system and the plants and animals in it”  – Piper, Jesse and Paige the Conservationists.

House Cup Update – Week 7

The House Cup Competition has been fiercely contested in and out of the classrooms. It has been a great opportunity for some friendly rivalry among the Year 6s and there is a definite sense of the House spirit building.

Our House Basketball tournament was extremely popular with some wonderful performances from students who would not usually play much basketball. The finals were played in front of enthusiastic crowds and it was great to see the success shared around the Houses. Results of the finals were:

Girls Basketball – McLeod def Davis
Boys Basketball – Dan Dan Nook def Bengalat
Mixed Basketball –  Bengalat def McLeod

In the end, McLeod were awarded the shield on a countback decision over Bengalat (based on the number of goals scored through the tournament).

We have now moved onto a Dodgeball Tournament, the final shield event for the year. The preliminary games have been played and the finals for each of the pools will be run this week.

Another highlight of the past week was Mr Field’s Newspaper Fashion Show. There were certainly some interesting designs and some even more interesting acting out on the catwalk.

Click read more for a score update, shield winners and some photos from the last few weeks’ competition.

Camp Australia

This week at OSHC we are celebrating all things beach and under the water related to mark the commencement of summer next week. Last week the children enjoyed participating in activities relating to teddy bears and their favourite stuffed toys. We had a few teddies that came in to visit, and a highlight for many of the children was making our own soft toy bunnies using socks and rice.
