Drysdale Primary School

Silvana Deans

Silvana Deans is retiring at the end of this term. She has been a staff member at Drysdale Primary for 23 years working tirelessly to support children within our Inclusion Program. She has a passion for helping children learn and grow and a dedication to supporting their well-being. We have valued her as a colleague and a friend drawing so often on her wise advice and extensive experience.

With an increasing number of grandchildren we know that she will continue to be busy enjoying retirement with her family. I would like to thank her for so many years of outstanding service to the children of Drysdale and her significant contribution to Drysdale Primary School.

Changes to Sports

Information about school operations is constantly changing in line with advice from Victoria’s Chief Medical Officer. Recent advice from School Sports Victoria is that all inter-school sport due to take place in Term 3 has been cancelled. As a result of advice received via DET, the school’s Swimming Program for 2020 has also been cancelled.

Camps

Thank you to all the parents who returned the survey about our school camps. We are expecting further advice from the Education Department about camp programs before the start of Term 3.

We will make a final decision about our camp program in the light of this advice and no later than the end of the first week of Term 3.

Payments Plans for School Charges

Many parents have organised payment plan agreements to cover anticipated excursion and camp costs plus Essential Education Items (school fees). This works very well for both parents and the school. However uncertainty about whether or not many of these activities will go ahead means that payment plans will need to be adjusted. We will contact those families who have an active payment plan agreement with the school early in Term 3 once DET has provided further information to schools.

Noone Uniform Shop

2nd Hand Uniform Sale

As we are all now aware, to reduce the number of adults on school site, our Second Hand Uniform Shop that is usually run by our fantastic parent volunteers has been unavailable. Our Junior School Council have thought up a creative way for families to be able to access second hand items during the Covid-19 restrictions. We will be arranging a sale of our second hand uniform collection via the school’s Facebook page!

Please look out for this information that will be available by Thursday morning. A big thank you to our Junior School Council members and Mr Kennedy for organizing this!

How it will work: Photos of items and size descriptions will be posted online, items can be ordered online in return for a donation to the Junior School Council’s Legacy Appeal. Your donation can be sent to school with your child in an envelope. Your order will be sent home with your child at the end of the school day. Apologies, no refunds.

Important Dates for the Calendar

Reports will be available online on Wednesday, June 24th. In line with guidance from the Department of Education, the end of Semester reports will have a different format and content to the ones normally provided at this time of year. This reflects the differences resulting from the extended period of remote learning.

Term 2 finishes at 2:30pm on Friday, June 26th. With our staggered finish times, the first groups (Bengalat and McLeod) will leave at this time. The remaining groups (Davis and Dan Dan Nook) will finish at 2:45pm. Please note that the school crossing patrols will start at 2:30pm – their earliest permitted starting time. Parents arriving to collect children at 2:30pm should take extra care crossing Clifton Springs Road prior to the first groups finishing.

Monday, July 13th, the first day of Term 3, is a pupil free day. Our staff will be undertaking professional development training focused on Literacy and Mathematics Programs. The students will return to school after the mid-year holiday on Tuesday, July 14th.

Mobile Phones

Just a reminder that if your child/children are bringing a phone to school they must hand it to the Administration Office each morning and collect it again at the end of the school day.

The AP WrAP

As always, it has been a very busy week with lots of students showing greater independence with their learning now we are all back onsite.

It has been lovely greeting some students each morning at the gates.

For those families who usually have Student Support Group meetings, your child’s classroom teacher will be contacting you to make an time. We understand that plenty of feedback and communication has occurred this term. Please liaise with your child’s teacher. These will be held via video conference using Webex Meetings. The same platform students used during Remote Learning.

Tyson- From Year 3 shared his Narrative about a Turtle with a matching illustration. Tyson completed this independently which was fabulous to see.

Harper- Also from Year 3 came for a visit to our office and shared her mindfulness colouring she had completed. She certainly had some amazing colours and paid great attention to detail!
Well done to both of you.

It was exciting to visit Prep O where they were role playing a big book to support their retelling strategy in Reading.

Have a great week everyone!

Camp Australia

Brrrrr, Winter has fully settled in, and at OSHC this week we’re going to be doing lots of fun activities with wool, such as making gods eyes, weaving, pom poms, friendship bracelets, braiding, wool dolls. We will also be keeping warm with lots of active games and sports for children to choose to engage in, as well as some quieter activities to do while sitting near the heater (a much desired spot on these chilly mornings we’ve been having lately).

While it might not feel like it, with some students only returning to school last week, it is time to start thinking about the upcoming school holidays. There are only two weeks to go School Holiday club bookings are now open, with care being offered at Ocean Grove Primary School, East Geelong Primary School, Fyans Park Primary School, Montpellier Primary School and Ocean Grove Primary School. This Winter, Holiday Club is back with an exciting program that puts an emphasis on reconnecting friendships and helping children forge new ones. It gives you a chance to have some much-needed rest, while having that peace of mind that your children will be engaged and connected in a safe space.

With engaging activities like French Explorations where your children will dive into French culture, Weather the Storm where they will explore scientific experiments, or maybe Magic Architecture where they’ll create magnificent designs with magic corn; there are lots of activities to appeal to all ages and abilities, and will ensure they have a great holiday break. To find out when these activities are on during the school holidays and to find your nearest service, visit: www.campaustralia.com.au/holidayclubs.
