Drysdale Primary School

COVID – 19 Update

Premier Daniel Andrew’s announcement this morning confirms that Victorian school students will begin a phased return to classrooms in two weeks. All Prep, Year One and Year Two students will return to on-site learning from Tuesday 26th May. There is a pupil free day at all schools on Monday 25th May, this will give staff, schools and families time to prepare for returning to school. Years 3 to 6 students will then return to onsite learning on Tuesday June 9th following the June long weekend.

Vulnerable students in Years 3 to 6, whose parents or carers cannot work from home, can continue to attend school on-site as needed. Applications should still be made to the school directly via email drysdale.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au.

The Government will invest up to $45 million for enhanced cleaning that will occur every day at every school across the state for all of Term 2 and Term 3. This will help to reduce the spread of viruses and germs in schools and will include the cleaning of frequently used high-touch surfaces. Further advice on social distancing guidelines for schools will be shared in the coming weeks.

All Victorian school staff will be prioritised for voluntary coronavirus testing for a two-week period from both mobile and fixed testing sites, starting today. This will enable school staff to seek testing during the preparation period before the return to on-site schooling.

Further details will be made available in the coming days and weeks as we prepare for students and staff to return to face to face teaching and learning. While we know that school is returning, it is important to understand that there will be many changes to how school will operate as we return to face-to-face learning.

Thank you for your outstanding support and patience during what we know has been a challenging time.

The AP WrAP

Week 5 and what an amazing job you have all done! Thanks to our amazing families for all your support and patience and to our students who we are so extremely proud of! Well done!

It has been a busy week of remote learning with our Prep students completing some learning related to their Big Idea ‘Every family in our community is unique.’ And you are certainly all unique in the way you have spent time together both learning and playing at home.

Across Years 3-6 there will certainly be some amazing art work to look at when students return to on-site learning. We can’t wait to see the black and white photography, ‘Name Monsters’, comic strips for Media Arts and collages.

Preparations are also well underway for our concert item across Year 6. We will be guided by further DET information regarding logistics about this and will advise our families at a later date.

Our Inclusion staff continue to support staff and students in their Remote teaching and learning. They are involved in online planning meetings with teachers, meetings with students and creating some fabulous resources and sharing these with families.

We would love to hear from students for our challenge this week. The students are invited to send through challenges for our community to complete. Appropriate ones of course and that follow current social distancing rules. Please send these through to the school email: drysdale.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au

Please be in touch if you require any support and we hope to see you all very soon!

Year 5 Remote Learning

The Year 5 students have made an overwhelmingly positive start to remote learning this term. The Year 5 cohort have been using ‘Edmodo’ to communicate between students and the teacher and this is also the platform where students have been uploading their tasks. The students have been working very hard over the first four weeks and have been enjoying sharing their learning through the scheduling of Web Ex meetings. Having the ability to see each other, even though a computer screen has been really positive over the last few weeks.

This week we have been learning about ‘Procedural texts’ in Reading & Writing and algorithms in Maths. During Inquiry learning, students have been discovering information about Asian countries, Indonesia or China and comparing the lives of these people with your average Australian, it was fascinating!

Please take time to read the following examples of Procedural texts, particularly if you are interested in learning how to expertly decorate your room, create the perfect scrunchie or cook some amazing pancakes.

Thanks to Tahlia, Noah & Piper

Camp Australia

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of the Mums, Grandmothers, Aunts, Sisters and other special people in the Drysdale Primary School Community a very Happy Mothers Day. We hope you all enjoyed your day, although in many cases it couldn’t be celebrated as it would be normally.

At OSHC, we celebrated mothers day by making mothers day presents, including painting plaques, making voucher books, and stamping our own special mothers day card. The children all enjoyed having a go, and using the sponges to paint on canvas seemed to be an interesting experience for all involved.

Other popular activities have been balloon games, Monopoly, Uno, Tennis, Basketball, chalk drawings, jumping frogs and celebrating Star Wars day by designing our own planets.
