Breezeway Toilets Makeover

Many thanks to Clint and Amy Fear who have donated much of their personal time and considerable expertise to refresh the breezeway toilets.  Many of you will be aware that these toilets were closed from Geelong Cup day on Wednesday through to Monday morning.  In that time Amy and Clint have scrubbed them clean and repainted them. The result is outstanding.  We are immensely grateful to both Clint and Amy for their voluntary service to the school.  The children are very excited to have a clean and fresh toilet area.  The challenge is to keep them in this clean condition.

Barwon Health Grant

At our Kids Matter assembly yesterday we were visited by Leo and Dan from Barwon Health who presented the school with a certificate recognising our “outstanding initiative in Mental Health Promotion” and a cheque for $1,000 to support our Kids Matter program.  They stayed for the assembly and were able to experience a small part of the work we do in this area.  I would like to thank Barwon Health for the great generosity in providing us with this grant which will provide vests for the Kids Matter kids in the yard to make them more visible to the other students as well as a new sign to go above our friendship seat in the yard.

Mental Health First Aid Training

In recent weeks the majority of our school’s staff have completed a course in mental health first aid which required attending one full day of training, which took place on our third pupil free day in September. Also on the first and third Thursday of this term staff attended two further sessions of three hours training. As a result Drysdale Primary School has a higher proportion of staff trained in mental health first aid than any other school in the Geelong area.  I must commend the staff who have actively embraced this opportunity and given up large amount of their own time to complete the training.

Geelong Show Art Award

Many of students’ art work was displayed at the Geelong Show Schools Art Competition over last weekend.  There was a huge variety of pieces representing the full range of techniques and media taught in our outstanding Art Specialist program.  Drysdale Primary School was awarded fourth place overall.  I would like to thank Mrs Henderson and Mrs Osborne for the time and effort they have spent displaying the children’s work and their skill in delivering our program so effectively.  I would also like to thank all the students for being so amazingly creative and engaging so positively with their learning (as usual).

Junior School Council – Second Hand Clothing Stall

Last Friday, the Junior School Council held a Second-Hand Clothing Stall in the Year 6 classroom. The Year 6 students donated some clothes that didn’t fit them anymore, and we sold each item for $1. In one lunchtime, we managed to raise $65.75. There were a lot of very happy students who managed to grab a bargain.

Because it was so successful, we are going to reopen the clothing stall this Friday at lunchtime where there will be more clothes for sale. Sizes ranged from 6 to 16 so there are plenty of options for everyone.

If anyone else would like to donate clothes, they can be dropped into the Year 6 classrooms.

Hot Shots Tennis

On Monday morning some lucky Year 6s and 5s headed off to play tennis at Geelong Lawn Tennis Club. Mr Sinnott drove us there in the mini-van. In total, we all played around eight games each, we played doubles and singles on the day. Everyone had lots of fun. The girl’s team came third overall, and the boys came second. It was loads of fun and a great day for it. We would like to thank Mr Sinnott for taking the day out of school to allow us to have this experience, and we promise we won’t mention the Slurpees!

Flexi Buzz Parent App

We are very excited to announce the launch of our new Parent App, FlexiBuzz. We are committed to strengthening the communication between the school and home, particularly between parents and teachers. The introduction of FlexiBuzz opens up a new channel where the school and teachers can communicate directly with parents in a timely and convenient manner.

The FlexiBuzz App runs on both Android and Apple devices and can also be used via a website on any internet-connected device. The App is free to download and there is no cost involved with the registration.

We would like to thank our Parent Fundraising Group who raised the funds to purchase FlexiBuzz at the Family Dance Night earlier this year.
