Drysdale Primary School

Drysdale Market Coordinator

We are looking for someone who is willing to take on the organisation of our school’s monthly Community Market. Not only is this one of our school’s major fundraisers, but it is also a much-loved local community event. The Market Coordinator manages bookings from stallholders and allocates them a site for each market.

The School Council and Parent volunteers support the Coordinator by managing the early morning set-up of the market each month. This allows the Market Coordinator to arrive and check-in with the stallholders once they are set up and trading.

If anyone is interested in taking on this role, either individually or in partnership with a friend, please let me know via the school office as soon as possible.

Prep Parent Information Session for 2020

On Thursday 17 October, there will be an information session for the parents of children starting school in Prep next year.  This session will begin at 6:00pm in the Prep building and will last around 45 minutes. Information that will be covered will include the Transition Program over the rest of this year, the expectations for Prep and the arrangements for the beginning of next year.

Invitations have been sent to parents of children for whom we have a confirmed enrolment. It is still not too late to complete an enrolment for next year’s Prep classes. Enrolment forms can be collected from the school’s office.

Drysdale Community Market

Drysdale Community Market

The Drysdale Community Market is resuming its summer season this Sunday, back down at the Drysdale Reserve, next to the Football and Netball Club. The Market runs from 9:00am – 1:00pm.

With 80+ stalls offering hand crafted or home grown wares, as well as locally produced items plus food vans and entertainment for the kiddies, there’s a little bit of something for everyone at our lovely market. We look forward to seeing lots of our school community there to help support a fantastic community event.

School Camp Program

Our 2019 School Camp Program is now underway. The Year 5 children left for their camp at Maldon yesterday morning and are already into the swing of their bike riding program. The Year 4 group head off to Kangaroobie tomorrow morning. Other year groups have their camps planned for later this term.

I would like to thank the staff and parent volunteers who accompany the children. This is a huge undertaking as it involves being on duty for 24 hours a day throughout the time the children are away. Both parents and staff do this voluntarily, for which I am very grateful.

I would also like to thank the parents of the children who allow us the pleasure of being with their children for these extended periods of time. Our Camp program is highly valued and is often one of the most memorable elements of our students’ time here at Drysdale Primary.

The cost is $85 for term and registrations can be completed online at www.chessforkids.com.au.

Prizes are awarded for the top 3 players each term and we have trophies and badges from last term to award to the following students at Assembly on Monday: Owen (5C), William (2A), Josh (3M) and Tilly (2GV).

Envision Hands Plastic Lid Recycling

“Hi, I’m Jake and I have brought in over 200 hundred plastic lids to recycle. I wanted to help the school, the environment and help people who are missing arms and hands. I collected some from home and got my Mum to collect lots from her work. I hope that they can have hands soon.”

Walk, Ride and Scoot to School

Walk, ride or scoot to school this October!

‘Walk to School Month’ is here! It runs from October 7th to November 1st.

We would love to see all students, parents and families walking, riding, scooting and skating together to school! Walking to school is a great way to socialise with peers, improves concentration levels in class and adds up for the 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity that children need to complete every day.

So let’s get active together!

Camp Australia

It was a fun filled first week back at OSHC, and week two promises to be even more amazing. Last week the children chose to engage in activities including dramatic play, discussing their holidays, ball games, beading, balloon games, uno, chess and checkers, and challenging themselves to write lists of their top ten favourite things, which was harder than you might think for most of them.

This week we will be offering activities such as Gaga Ball tournaments, a colouring competition, bobs and statues games, Yahtzee and an Obstacle course, along with many other choices.

With the arrival of term 4 we need to remind everyone that sun smart hats should be brought to OSHC so that the children can go outside and enjoy the amazing weather we get this time of year at after school care.

We also need to remind parents that, with school camps coming up, children who are attending camp need to have their OSHC bookings cancelled while they away to avoid parents being charged. For most parents these cancellations need to happen a week in advance in order to avoid being charged.

In a few weeks time, from the 11th to the 15th of November, we will be running our special recycling week program. Keep your eyes open for our special promotional posters and the program we have developed for that week focused on recycling and sustainability.

OSHC at Drysdale Primary School operates out of the School hall,  We open at 7:00 each school day, and send the children off at 8:50, when the teachers are scheduled to commence their yard duty. Unfortunately we are unable to accept children into our care earlier than 7:00. At 3:30, once the school bell goes, children attending after school care walk over to the hall from their classrooms, with preps being picked up from their classrooms and we provide a safe place for them to play and engage with other children until they are collected.  Our closing time is 6:00. For more information on our service and fees, you may visit our website www.campaustralia.com.au. If you prefer to speak to us, you can contact our friendly Customer Care Team that is available to support our families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – except for National Public Holidays. Alternatively, you’re welcome to visit us in service and chat with our qualified Educators about the Camp Australia program at your child’s school.

A friendly reminder for parents that for staffing and catering purposes children should be booked into OSHC through the Camp Australia head office, and that should you need to cancel their booking please can this be done through head office as well.  This works out much cheaper for you, as there are additional fees involved if children do not attend sessions they are booked in for.  Bookings can be made or cancelled by logging into the Camp Australia website https://www.campaustralia.com.au or by ringing 1300 105 343. The team are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (except National Public Holidays).

We look forward to seeing you and your family soon! From the Team at Camp Australia.
