Drysdale Primary School

Celebrating learning

The visitors continue to arrive at the Principal door! Always the highlight of my day, read below to hear about the fabulous learning happening in our school this week…

  • Jesse from Year 3 came to visit to share his success at the District Aths. Jesse came 1st in the 100m, 1st in the Long Jump and 2nd in Shot Put.
  • Kate from Prep shared her Student Led Conference (SLC) with me. Kate read ‘Barn Dance’ to me, an unseen book! The book was all about a silly frog. Kate’s favourite thing to do in prep is to dance!
  • Ruby from Year 1 shared her SLC with me. Ruby really impressed with me with her enthusiasm for learning and excitement for school. Keep up the great attitude Ruby!
  • Jagger from Year 1 shared his SLC with me. Jagger shared a published writing piece with me that was all about the cricket. It has excellent structure and read very well!
  • Simranpreet from Year 1 shared his SLC with me. He showed his family, Ms. Behncke and I how well he could count using his ‘Counting Caterpillar’ strategies. We were all very impressed.
  • Kenzie from Prep shared her writing with me from her SLC book. She showed me that she can write her lowercase letters correctly on the dotted thirds. Her favourite things to do in prep are concert and Indonesian.
  • Hollie from Year 6 shared her SLC with me. She is really proud of her debate on ‘We should fix Earth’s problems rather than moving to Mars’ (arguing for the affirmative). Hollie won best speaker for her role in this debate. Hollie also shared her story ‘The Better Life’ told from the perspective of a boy having challenges during the time of the Industrial Revolution. I was so lucky as I got my own copy of the story to keep!
  • Denham from Year 6 shared his SLC with me. I was very impressed with his reflections on school and his personal growth this semester. Keep up this brilliant attitude Denham, what a great role model you are for others.
  • Lexi from Year 6 shared her SLC with me. Lexi spoke to me with great confidence, giving me good eye contact and responding thoughtfully to all my questions. Well done Lexi!

Year 1 Special Person Day

Grayson: My Nanna and Pop came with me to Special Persons Day. They brought an old kettle, an old camera and a pocket watch. My favourite part was seeing James’ fire gold hydrant!

Elise: My Nanna, Pa and Mum came with me to Special Persons Day. They brought a mini TV, it has a little screen on it. My favourite part of the day was getting to have a turn on all the different calculators.

Jack: I turned on the calculators and I typed lots of numbers into them! It was really fun!

Lakai: My Dad came in for Special Persons Day. He brought a Nintendo, which is a game you play. It only had one game on it which was the first game to come out! I also loved the coin machine, it was funny.

James: My Mum came and she brought something that helps the fire to blow. I learnt that old lanterns used to run on oil.

Primrose: I saw lots of Grandparents and I think some were 100 years old or maybe past that. I saw old photos that were in black and white. I loved Special Persons Day!

Kalista: I learnt how to make a special paper game that people used to play. I also got to see how people used to bake and cook. You didn’t have electrics so you had to use your muscles!

Ryan: My Nanny and Genga came and I learnt how to use an olden day phone. It had a spinning part in the middle and you had to use your fingers to turn it around to get the number you wanted. I really liked showing everyone this!

Benji: My favourite part of Special persons Day was getting to use an old telescope. When I put my eye up to it I could see really far away! It was really cool.

Amelia: My Mum and Grandpa came to Special Persons Day. They brought an old drill with them. You had to twist is around and around in a circle because they didn’t have any electricity. I really liked using the drill but it would take a long time to use it.

Eli: I really liked seeing the Queen’s handkerchief and the Maori headbands. They were both really special. These people got to see the Queen get crowned which is pretty amazing.

Drysdale Community Market

Community Market Update

As we prepare for the new season of our Community Market back down at the Drysdale Reserve, we are on the lookout for a volunteer (or volunteers) to take over from Bre Gage, our current Market Coordinator.

Bre has has done a tremendous job coordinating the market for the last five years and is stepping down from the role this year. Over this time the market has raised more than $100,000 for the school which has helped to fund both our Inclusion Program and Wellbeing Support for our children. Bre has put in place an efficient booking system that has drastically reduced the amount of work that is required on the morning of the market. The role is also supported by School Council and Parent Volunteers who attend each market to assist with the stallholders.

We are very keen to hear from anyone who is interested in taking over. If this is you, or someone you know of, please email the school – drysdale.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au to register your interest.

Sports Colours Day – Friday 20th September

From Junior School Council

This Friday is the last day of Term 3 and we will be holding a Sports Colours Day. All of our staff and students are invited to dress in their favourite sport colours or favourite sporting team colours; they are asked to bring a gold coin donation. The money raised will be split between two important charities.

Save our Sons is a charity that helps with all children living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Save our Sons is working to raise awareness for people living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. It affects one in 3500 boys and is very rare for a girl. The charity is fighting to find a cure.

Make a Wish partners with sick kids, their families and medical teams to grant wishes as unique as the children who imagine them. Earlier this week, we heard from Riley in Prep who flew to Adelaide to watch the Crows play. Thanks to the Make a Wish Foundation, he got to meet the pilots on the plane and had a personal training session with Tex Walker, Rory Sloane and Eddie Betts.

Stay tuned for some exciting announcements for next Term.

Walk, Ride or Scoot to School this October!

Walk, ride or scoot to school this October!

‘Walk to School Month’ is just around the corner, and kicks off on the first day of Term 4, running from October 7th to November 1st.

We would love to see all students, parents and families walking, riding, scooting and skating together to school! Walking to school is a great way to socialise with peers, improves concentration levels in class and adds up for the 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity that children need to complete every day.

So let’s get active together!
