Indonesian Day

Selamat Bu Hurt pada Hari Indonesia yang luar biasa! Congratulations Bu Hurt on a great Indonesian Day! For anyone who missed assembly, this special day was launched with a performance from our Year 1 students, who sung ‘Di Sini Senang’ with accompanying actions and props. A group of Year 3 and Year 4 students also played the angklung for us- this is an instrument that originated in Indonesia but is popular throughout South-East Asia. I wonder if anyone in the audience could pick the song that was being played? Oscar, Noah and Izzy shared some tales from their recent trip to Indonesia- I loved hearing about the cheeky monkeys that were stealing towels from their deck! Pak Sinnott and Bu Osborne also told us some fun facts about themselves, all spoken in Indonesian. We learnt that they both love pizza! Finally, we enjoyed a presentation from Ms. Bonnie Hermawan, Senior Project Officer at the Department of Education and Training, who talked to us about the importance of learning another language and shared her own journey with us, detailing all the amazing experiences she has had as a result of learning Indonesian. After the assembly, the students spent the day taking part in a range of activities- Indonesian puppet making, board games, cultural music, dance and art. Thank you for organising and running the day Bu Hurt, it was a fantastic experience for all the students and something they will remember for many years to come! Thank you also to our Captains for their brilliant leadership of assembly, introducing each speaker or performance so well. Thank you to our wonderful teachers, administration and Inclusion staff for supporting this event to run so smoothly across the school and finally, many thanks to our parent community for coming in to visit classrooms and for helping to find red and white items of clothing for their child to wear! What a highlight in our school calendar.

Book Fair Thank You

The Book Fair was a huge success! Many books were sold at bargain prices, with lots of great money being raised for the school. It was wonderful to see the students so excited to visit the Book Fair and equally fantastic to see parents supporting this opportunity. Huge thanks must go to Mrs Alonso for organising the Book Fair, along with Roxanne Stokes, Stephanie Davey, Clancey Mackenzie, Mel Butler, Mel Kelly and Sandra Mockli who all volunteered their time to run the Book Fair. We look forward to running the Book Fair again in 2020, in the meantime I am sure there will be many children staying up late with a torch in hand, under the covers, keen to get stuck into their new books. Enjoy!

District Athletics

Last week nearly 100 students represented Drysdale PS at the Connewarre District Athletics Championships. On what turned out to be a great day, students competed against other schools from our local area to find representatives for the Bellarine Division event. Several students were awarded ribbons on the day for their efforts. Special mention to the Year 3 students who showed what great sporting students are coming through Drysdale PS. This is the highest competition level they can compete in for athletics and they represented our school so well on the day. More information will be coming soon to those students who qualified for the next round. Could all sports tops please be returned to school as soon as possible. Thank you.

Camp Australia

Wasn’t Book week so much fun last week? We got into the spirit of things at OSHC by drawing our favourite characters, writing our own books, recreating our favourite book covers with Perler beads, and making up our own comic strip stories. We challenged ourselves with some games of “guess the book character” and enjoyed engaging with the books at OSHC, reading both independently, and in small groups.
