T-Ball Finals

Last Monday the boys t-ball team traveled to Keilor to compete in the Western Metro Region T-Ball finals. The boys put in a huge amount of effort and commitment to training for the day and it clearly showed. They won all three of their games and went into the final undefeated. Unfortunately, they came up against a formidable team (and previous state champions) to lose the final. The sportsmanship and comradery of the team is to be commended, with great feedback given to them from the organisers of the day. The team should be proud of their amazing effort!

House Athletics Carnival

Last Wednesday we held our school Athletics Carnival at Landy Field. It was great to see so many happy faces competing in all aspects of athletics and having a great day out with their friends. A huge thank you needs to go to all our wonderful parent volunteers who came along on the day. Without parent support, these events simply cannot run. I know all the students and staff appreciate the support from our parent community. Congratulations to Bengalat House on winning the 2019 Athletics Championships.

Thank you from the Principal

It is such an honour to be stepping into Mr. Dunlop-Moore’s shoes for the remainder of the term and guiding this brilliant school through many exciting events to come in the following weeks. With such a wonderful group of teachers, inclusion staff and parents it is sure to be a great experience in the role. We hope that Mr. Dunlop-Moore has a relaxing holiday in Europe and returns with lots of exciting travel stories to share. Many thanks to Nicole Alonso, James Field, Shane Kennedy and Lucy Croxford who are all stepping into the Assistant Principal role at various times throughout Term 3.

Science Week

This week at school we are celebrating Science Week, with pop-up inquiries happening in classes around the theme of ‘Destination Moon: More Missions, More Science.’ This theme has been chosen to coincide with the 50 year anniversary of the moon landing. To launch our special week, Guy and Chase from Year 5 shared their incredible Inquiry research project at the whole school assembly. Using an advanced knowledge of coding, Guy and Chase created a gaming program using ‘Scratch’, designed a 3D space model and a rover car which responded to programming commands. Well done Guy and Chase, you certainly demonstrated our school value of ‘Success’ when you shared your achievements in assembly this week. I look forward to celebrating further success with our students as they participate in Science Week experiences.

Victorian Primary Schools Parliamentary Convention

Last Tuesday, four of our Year 6 students took an early morning train to Melbourne to attend the Victorian Primary Schools Parliamentary Convention. Of the 2,500 schools across Victoria, Drysdale Primary School was selected as one of 47 schools to take part in the Convention. Hayden, Indi, Emily and Taj were selected from our Year 6 cohort to attend the Convention and did a brilliant job. They represented the school proudly in the Legislative Assembly, debating the question, “Should athletes and other celebrities use their popularity to influence social and political issues?” As well as contributing their own views to the topic, the students also heard from a number of other speakers on the topic, including the Leader of the Liberal Party, Michael O’Brien, Labor MP Tim Richardson and Rayoni Nelson from Schools Sports Victoria. Hayden, Indi, Emily and Taj were exemplary role models for our school and they are to be congratulated on their insightful, mature and passionate involvement in the Convention. Well done!
