Drysdale Primary School

Education Week

We are celebrating our school value of ‘Success’ as part of Education Week with a focus on the many different ways in which our amazing students demonstrate success at school. We have so many incredibly talented children whose skills range from academic to musical to artistic to sporting. Being successful is not necessarily performing at the standard of a world champion; it is about demonstrating a new skill.

Yesterday in assembly eleven of our students spoke about one part of their learning this year.  They described work in Reading, Writing, Maths and, different parts of our Inquiry Program as well as giving examples of their successful learning in each of the specialist subjects.  Tomorrow we are holding the second of our open classroom opportunities. Parents who would like to drop into school to take a look at the students working in class are most welcome to arrive between 2:40pm and 3:30pm.

Sayembara Lisan – Indonesian Speaking Competition

A couple of weeks ago we entered twenty students from Years 3 to 6 in the annual Sayembara Lisan Indonesian Speaking Competition. We have been told that ten of our students have qualified for the finals that will be held in Melbourne shortly. That is a fantastic outcome! What makes it even more remarkable is that there are only thirty children altogether in the final within the three primary school levels. In addition, looking through the names of children who have qualified for one of the secondary school levels, I recognised a further six children who attended Drysdale Primary and are now in a secondary school.

Drysdale Community Market

School Market

We held the last summer market of this season on Sunday on morning at the Drysdale Recreation Reserve. I would like to thank Bre Gage, who has been our market co-ordinator for the last five years, and the team of School Councillors. This year we have been also been supported by a team of parent volunteers organised by Lorraine Gaskell and Fiona Horne. Each year the market raises close to $20,000. This supports the school’s well-being program by extending the Assistant Principal’s role.

Camp Australia

It has been yet another busy week at OSHC at Drysdale primary School. We hope that families week last week was enjoyable for all of the families within the Drysdale Primary School community.
We offered numerous activities relating to families week at the service, and although they were not popular choices amongst the children, we were able to work conversations about families into other activities that were more popular with the children. These activities included Math games, chalk drawings, Pokemon dramatic play, gaga ball championships, colour tag, and playing natural disasters.
