Drysdale Primary School

School Wide Positive Behaviour

At the start of the year we introduced School Wide Positive Behaviour.  This formalizes the philosophy used at Drysdale Primary of rewarding the good behaviour of the vast majority of our students to improve the behavior of all students.  A part of this approach is the creation of a behaviour matrix which sets out expected behaviours in the classroom, outside the classroom and online linked to our five core school values of Resilience, Acceptance, Integrity, Success and Enjoyment.  The school has three simple rules which apply in all situations: we follow instructions, we use appropriate school language and we keep hands, feet and objects to ourselves.

You can find copies of this matrix, the structure of the rewards that link to the matrix and the school’s behavior management policy on the schools website policy section.

Education Week Assembly Monday at 9:05am

Next week is Education Week.  We will be celebrating our school value of Success with a focus on the many different ways in which our amazing students demonstrate success at school.  On Monday we will be holding a special assembly at which we have invited one student from each year group and each specialist program to talk to the school community about one way they have experienced success in their learning.

Education Week Assembly Open Classrooms

There will be two open classroom times during Education Week.  These will be on Monday at 9:50a. immediately after the special assembly and at 2:40pm on Wednesday afternoon. You don’t need to be a trained parent helper to join in these sessions, this is an opportunity for all parents, grandparents, carers and guardians to come into classrooms and join in the learning with the students. The intention is not that this is a practiced performance but that it is an example of what you might normally see happening at these times.  If you are intending to visit, please sign in at the office on arrival so that we have a record of who is on site.  Everyone is welcome; we look forward to seeing lots of you for these events.

Next Wednesday at 11:10am as a part of our Education Week celebrations, DPS will be participating in the “National Simultaneous Storytime” which is extremely exciting!

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country at the same time!

The chosen picture book this year is “Alpacas with Maracas” written by Matt Cosgrove.

eSmart Session for Parents Tonight…All Welcome!

We are very fortunate to again have Leading Senior Constable Robbie Noggler coming to Drysdale Primary School to run an eSmart session with our students, staff and parents. Robbie is a highly experienced Youth Resource Officer and is an expert on Cyber Safety. His presentations cover the most recent and up to date apps, social media and games along with the dangers children face when they are online. As an eSmart accredited school, we work hard to ensure the safety of our children while they are online and we are looking forward to learning more from Robbie. Tonight, (Tuesday, 14th May), Robbie will to speak with our adult community about what we can do to keep not only ourselves safe online, but also our children and the children in our care. All of our staff will be in attendance, and we are extending the invitation to our parents and the wider community to come along and join in the session, starting at 3:45pm in the Year 6 rooms. Hope to see you there!
