On Friday twenty of our children from Years 3 to 6 are taking part in this year’s Indonesian speaking competition, Sayembara Lisan. It is very exciting to see how positively all the children have embraced the opportunity to participate including both those who put themselves for selection originally and those who have been chosen to represent our school. I know that they have been practising hard at school with Bu Hurt and at home with their parents.

On Thursday almost fifty of our children in Years 4 to 6 will be representing the school at the District Cross Country in Eastern Gardens. These are the children who qualified by coming in the top eight for their age at our school cross country last term. I would like to thank the staff and parents who have been working with the children and will be supporting them on Thursday.

This week’s local Business of the Week is the very well known and supportive Total Martial Arts Academy Drysdale. They were the second of our major sponsors for our recent Obstacool event, along with Ray White Drysdale, and we can’t thank them enough. Drysdale Primary School has a long connection with TMA with many of our students learning and competing in their martial arts there.
Total Martial Arts Academy Drysdale is dedicated to martial arts, self-defence and fitness in and around Drysdale and the Bellarine Peninsula. They teach professional martial arts and self-defence lessons at an affordable price. At Total Martial Arts Academy – Drysdale, they offer classes in martial arts, with age specific classes beginning from age 4.
Their range of classes has something to suit everyone with regular classes that focus on self-defence with high energy fitness fun. Their XMA (extreme martial arts) class focuses on weapons and demonstration martial arts.
For more information about Total Martial Arts Academy, visit their website at www.tma-academy.com or their Facebook page – www.facebook.com/Total-Martial-Arts-Academy-Australia

We are very fortunate to again have Leading Senior Constable Robbie Noggler coming to Drysdale Primary School to run an eSmart session with our students, staff and parents. Robbie is a highly experienced Youth Resource Officer and is an expert on Cyber Safety. His presentations cover the most recent and up to date apps, social media and games along with the dangers children face when they are online. As an eSmart accredited school, we work hard to ensure the safety of our children while they are online and we are looking forward to learning more from Robbie.

On Thursday the 2nd of May the Year 5 students enjoyed an excursion to Melbourne to support their learning of their Big Idea ‘The World’s Geography has an impact on the Reciprocal Relationship between Man and Earth’.
They began with a walking tour of Melbourne which included historical sites and more modern structures such as Federation Square. They also enjoyed a very informative IMAX movie on the forces of Earth.

How quickly is the year flying by, it is hard to believe we are already in May.
Last week the children who attended OSHC engaged in activities such as making dioramas, playing board games and card games including Monopoly, UNO, Chess and Checkers, playing Gaga and Soccer, talking about the AFL results and the current positioning of the AFL ladder, and making tracks with the dominos, and talking about the Lego Masters TV show, and making their own Lego Masterpieces. Another highlight was celebrating Star Wars day a day early by playing Star Wars light sabre limbo.
