Drysdale Primary School

Entrance to School (Clifton Springs Road)

At Drysdale Primary School we encourage children to ride and walk to school. Apart from being good exercise, this does help reduce the amount of traffic around the school at the beginning and end of the day. At these busy times it is important to work together to reduce the risks that come from mixing cars and children. For parents and children entering the school from Clifton Springs Road, especially those who have taken advantage of the crossing patrol outside the school, the pedestrian entrance is through the brick pillars and along the path leading to the office entrance. Please do not use either car park entrance. These are for staff cars only and those displaying a valid disabled parking permit (blue badge.).

School Council

At the start of each school year, half of the members of the school council finish their two year term of office providing an opportunity either for them to stand for re-election or for parents who are not currently on our school council to seek election. I would like to acknowledge the contribution made by the four parents whose current term finishes in March. Each has made a significant contribution to our school. Julie Penfold serves as the school’s treasurer, Dani Macdonald is the school council secretary while Kate Lockhart and Sally Edgerton have taken a leading role in the development of the school’s grounds and our sustainability program. Any parent who currently has at least one child at Drysdale Primary School is eligible for election to the school council. The full school council meets twice each term from 7pm on the third Tuesday of the month. Council members are also part of one of our four sub committees that meet once each between full council meetings and help with the school’s market once each market season. If anyone is interested in joining the school council, nomination forms are available from the school office.

Bike Shed

The school’s bike shed is located on the Clifton Springs Road side of the school oval. Children who ride to school wheel their bike from the school entrances to the bike shed to avoid collisions with other children and parents. Bikes should be secured with a sturdy lock during the day. Sadly over the last couple of years we have had two unlocked bikes / scooters taken from the bike shed. Please ensure you send a lock with your child.

Sun Smart

Please remember that we are a Sun Smart school which means that we support children’s understanding of how to stay safe in the sun. In particular throughout term 1 we require children to wear a broad brimmed hat when they are playing outside at recess and lunchtime. Please make sure that your child’s hat has their name in it as we regularly have a collection of unnamed school hats that we cannot return to the owner.

Parent Helper Training

We love having Parent Helpers to support student learning at Drysdale Primary School.

This year we will be holding our parent helper training session in the Year Prep building on Monday 25th February from 2:30 til 3:25pm. If you completed training last year it is still a requirement to come along to this session. At this session we will cover some of the opportunities you may experience in the classroom and some expectations around providing support. If you would like to be a parent helper in Terms 1 or 2 you must attend this training session. There will be another training session offered in the middle of the year for any further parents wanting to help in Terms 3 or 4.

We require all volunteers to complete their anaphylaxis training which can be done at https://etrainingvic.allergy.org.au/ This certificate will then need to be printed and shown to the Administration Office for a demonstration. You will also need to show a current Working with Children’s Check.
