School Council

There are a couple of vacancies on School Council for parent representatives. If you are interested in joining our School Council, please contact me. Our School Council meets monthly during term time on the third Tuesday. We have wide ranging discussions about the strategic direction of the school, equivalent in essence to a company’s business plan, which includes an overview of the school’s finances, development of the buildings and grounds and our interactions with our community.

Dogs

All government schools in the state of Victoria are dog free during the school day. Please do not bring dogs into the school grounds especially at either end of the school day. It is not permitted to carry your dog into school. Please leave them outside the school gates and a little away from the gates. Dogs and large numbers of young children can be a dangerous mix. Thank you for your consideration in keeping our school safe for everyone.

Market

The local Drysdale Market which is held monthly on the Reserve next to the football and netball club is organised and run by Drysdale Primary School with the support of parents, school council and staff. This is one of the school’s major fundraisers contributing nearly $20,000 annually to support our highly regarded Wellbeing program. I would like to acknowledge the support of Bre Gage who is our Market Coordinator, a parent and a school council member. Sunday’s market was also supported by Fiona Horne one of our parent volunteers.

Kids Matter Assembly

On two Mondays each term our whole school assembly supports our Kids Matter program. This has been running for nearly three years to provide a framework to support our students’ personal development. This term these assemblies will happen on February 25th, next Monday, and March 18th. Children are invited to wear their house t-shirts on these days. During assembly they sit in their house groups rather than their classes.

Nude Food

The nude food part of our sustainability program begins this week. We request that lunches are packed with as little or no wrapping that needs to be thrown away. This helps the children understand the importance of reducing the amount of plastic waste we create each day. There is a weekly competition with winners announced at assembly on Monday morning each week.

Lost Property

Inevitably we have begun to gather a collection of lost property. This is kept at the back of the Hall (the end closest to the oval). If we can find a name on something that turns up in lost property, we will return it usually at the end of the week in which it is lost. Please make sure that everything sent to school is named so that we can keep the pile of lost clothing to a minimum.

Ray White Drysdale

This week’s Business of the Week is Ray White Drysdale. Travis Smith and his team were generous sponsors of the 2018 Spring Fair, providing signage around Drysdale to promote the event, and then sponsoring the Main Stage on the day. The Drysdale branch has a strong connection with the school with a former student and a current parent both among the staff. If you are thinking of buying, renting or selling, contact Travis and his team at Ray White Drysdale.

Library Helpers Needed

We are looking for volunteers to assist in the Library on a regular basis.  No prior library experience is needed, just a current Working with Children’s Check. Tasks may include putting books away, tidying, labelling, repairing books and helping students to borrow books. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Please let the Administration Office know if you can assist or email the school on drysdale.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au. Susan Cairns or Tara van Winckel, who are running the Library this year, will then be in touch. Many thanks!

Working Bee

There will be a working bee at school this Sunday 24th February running from 9-11am. We would love to see as many families as possible come and lend a hand! We will be doing some gardening and DIY across the school, so please bring gloves, shovels, brooms, rakes, wheelbarrows and if anyone has a whipper snipper that would be fantastic too. We will all meet in the staffroom at 9am and then go from there. Hope to see you then!
