Drysdale Primary School

State Athletics Competition

Congratulations to Jasmine and Guy from year 4 who represented Drysdale Primary School at the State Athletics Championship yesterday.  This is a very high level of competition.  Guy came 4th in the high jump competition while Jasmine came 6th in the 200m and 9th in the 100m.  Finishing in the top ten of an athletics event is the equivalent to being selected in the starting line-up of a team sport.  Both Guy and Jasmine show a lot of resilience and dedication.  They have represented our school with distinction and we are incredibly proud of them.

Children and Social Media

Most social media sites have restrictions limiting the age of people who can hold accounts.  There are good reasons for these restrictions, even though it is relatively easy to bypass them to set up accounts.  While the children are in school we have strict filtering systems that prohibit access to any content and social media aimed at older users.  Even so we regularly have to respond to issues arising from children’s inappropriate use of social media sites outside school hours.  We are required to report all alleged misuse of such sites to the police even when it happens outside school time.  This can be very confronting for parents and distressing for school staff.  Please can I ask that parents actively monitor their child’s use of a computer, iPAD or phone. We regularly provide cyber-safety information and can direct parents to on-line information as necessary.

Tennis Success

Our Girls and Boys Tennis teams headed to the Bellarine Division Hot Shots Tournament held at Geelong Lawn Tennis Club last week. Both teams played some fantastic tennis and there was noticeable improvement from many of our players. In what was a memorable day, both of our teams ended up being crowned winners.

Secondhand Uniform Donations Needed

Has all of this beautiful spring rain and sunshine made your children grow? Are their school clothes too small for them now? Or is it simply time for a wardrobe spring clean? If any of the above sounds like you, and you have discovered you have some spare school uniform you no longer need, then the Parents Fundraising Groups 2nd Hand Uniform Shop would love to take your kind donations off your hands!

We are especially low on girls uniform ie. dresses, skorts etc. and 2nd hand house T-shirts.

The office is happy to collect your kind and generous donations. Alternatively, the shop will be open again on Monday 12 November after school assembly, so bring them along!

Camp Australia

It has been another busy week at OSHC, which was broken up nicely by the Geelong Cup public holiday. We hope all those who got the day of had an enjoyable day. While we have been at OSHC the children have enjoyed visiting the Art show and finding their artwork and sharing it with their friends. Playing soccer and markers up, imaginative play with the dolls house and car mats, discussing favourite books, playing lego, doing the 3 marker challenge and exploring the grade 1 area have also been a hit this past week.
