Pupil Free Day – Friday December 7th

The fourth and final pupil free day for 2018 will be on Friday December 7th.  Please make arrangements for your children on this day.  On this day the staff will be meeting to work through the first section of the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Strategy that we shall be introducing from the beginning of 2019.  Much more information about this will be made available to parents as our teams become familiar with the detail of the program.

Student Led Conferences

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in our second student led conferences of 2018.  I hope that you have found this a valuable insight into your child’s successes at school. It has been wonderful to see the children’s excitement and enthusiasm for sharing this with their parents.

CONCERT TICKETS_1

School Concert Tickets

Some tickets for next week’s Concert are still available through Try Booking using the links sent out last week.  Tickets for the evening performances cost just $10 per ticket ($5 for children of primary school age and any preschool children who require their own seat.  Entry for preschool children who do not require their own seat is free.)  Tickets are still required for the matinee performances but are free.  We issue tickets for matinee performances so that parents have a guaranteed seat and so that we know how many people are attending.  This is necessary because there is an accommodation limit set for the hall which limits the number of tickets we can sell.

Rock School

On Sunday five of our Drysdale Primary School students performed at The Workers Club in Geelong.  Students in the Rock Band were Caleb from Year 6, Alicia from Year 6, Archie from Year 6, Will from Year 4, who sang a solo, and Ava from Year 3. These children have been learning their rock music skills in school on Mondays.  It takes a lot of courage as well as talent to perform like this and I congratulate these students.

Drysdale Soccer Club

The local soccer season is coming to a close.  So many of the children are now active members of Drysdale Soccer Club and have had a great season.  The Under 12 girls team as well as the Under 12 boys team both won through to their grand finals to be played this coming weekend.  The Under 13 boys team suffered a heartbreaking loss on penalties after scores being tied at the end of normal time and extra time.  Congratulations to all those players as well as the girls and boys who represent the under sevens, under nine and under elevens.

Year 2 Archaeology Excursion

On Friday 7th September all Year 2’s went on an exciting local excursion to the site of the new Drysdale Bypass. At the site there is some very special archaeological research being conducted that connects to Year 2’s Inquiry Big Idea; “Drysdale has significant connection with Aboriginal people and places.’ The excursion gave students a hands on opportunity to dig and search for ancient Watharoung Country relics and rocks with a real working archaeology team. The site has been successful in uncovering many Wathaurong tools believed to be thousands of years old.

Gardening Club 4

Gardening Club – Help Needed!

With the arrival of spring there is lots to be done in the garden! It is wonderful to see so many students coming down every Friday to take part in our club. It would be great to have more parents helping to run the club, so if you have a green thumb and are free on Fridays from 1-1.50pm we would love you to join us for gardening. Please contact Felicity Stark via the office if you are keen to get involved.

Fresh Fruit Friday

Each week we request parent volunteers from a year level to help cut up fresh fruit and distribute it to classes. If you have time to spare on a Friday morning we would love your help, regardless of what year level your child is in. Younger siblings are more than welcome to join you and play with the toys as long as they remain supervised. Please sign in at the office and make your way to the staff room from 9am.

This Friday, 14th September, we are asking for parent volunteers of Year 4 students to help cut up fruit.

Thank you to the Drysdale and Portarlington Community Bank Branches of the Bendigo Bank for sponsoring our school’s Fresh Fruit program for 2018.
