Enrolments for Prep 2019

Thank you to those parents who have sent in completed enrolment forms over the last few days.  This has helped greatly with planning for 2019 in all year groups including Prep.  Our current year 6 children are the last year group to have entered the school before we began managing our enrolments to stay within the limits set by the Education Department.  We do need to continue managing our enrolments carefully but can offer some places to those living outside our designated neighbourhood area who can make a case for special consideration.  Our designated neighbourhood area is considered the parts of Drysdale and Clifton Springs for which we are the closest government primary school.

Business Manager

I am delighted to let you know that we have appointed Simone Spencer-Gardner as the school’s Business Manager.  Simone is currently holding this position at Roslyn Primary School with previous experience at Surf Coast Secondary School.  Simone will be joining us on Monday August 20th.  I am very appreciative of the help given in this appointment process by our Assistant Principals, Felicity Stark and Blanche Denmead, as well as Julie Penfold, a parent representative on School Council, who is the School Council Treasurer.

kids matter

Kids Matter Assembly

Next week is the beginning of the fourth week of term which means we will hold our first Kids Matter Assembly for term 3 on Monday.  Kids Matter is an approach to developing student and parental engagement.  This approach has led us to develop better and more inclusive approach to communication as well as better support for our children in the school through, for example, the appointment of an additional Assistant Principal to oversee both our Inclusion program and our Well Being program. Children are invited to wear their house t-shirts on Monday.  The Kids Matter Assembly starts at 9.05 in the hall and usually last about 45 minutes.

House Athletics

The children in years 3 to 6 will be taking part in the annual house athletics event At Landy Field in Geelong on Thursday.  Andy Booth who has taken over the phys ed program is overseeing the event with the experienced support of other staff.  I would like to acknowledge the tremendous support of so many parents who are also volunteering to support the event.  Without your support it would be impossible to offer this event.  Thank you.

Playground Seating

Many of you will have noticed the new bench seats attached to the BER building.  These have been provided through the Parents Fundraising Group using money raised from the Colour Run and other events.  This is in response to feedback from the children about what they would like to have in the yard.  The benches have been made by Tasweld which is a local company run by the Benson family who’s children attend Drysdale Primary.  This is a great enhancement to our play spaces which is already being well used by the children.

Sensory Room Donations

A big thank you to some wonderful Prep parents who generously donated a kitchen and train set for the Sensory Room. The kitchen has already been getting a lot of use and is excellent for developing fine motor skills as children use the tongs and saucepans to cook and social play as they set up a Cafe with staff and customers. We are still putting the call out for more donations as we are lucky enough to have a lot of space. Read more to view what items we are after along with some photos of the Sensory Room in use.

Prep’s First 100 Days of School Celebration

The Prep students celebrated their first 100 days of school with a day full of activities. Students (and teachers!) dressed up like they were 100 years old for the occasion. Students also brought in 100 small items each so they could compare different ways 100 items could look. Certificates were presented along with some smarties, as they are all 100 days smarter. DPS Masterchef

Last week we started up our revised Life Skills Program with some brilliant cooking!  The selected students loved making their own pancakes and looked very professional in the kitchen.  A huge thank you to Jocelyn Wright and Kendra Kowalik who are coordinating this program for us.  We can’t wait to see what they cook up next! Art Show

SAVE THIS DATE!!!

On Friday 26th October Drysdale Primary School will be holding an Art Show, showcasing all of the children’s wonderful art work produced throughout the year.

Time: 5 to 8pm

Where: DPS Hall.

It will be a great night for all family and friends to come along.  More information will follow later in the Term.

Spring Fair 2018

Spring Fair is going to come up quickly!

Please put the date in your calendar so you can be there.  This year Spring Fair will be from 3:30pm – 7:30pm on Friday 16th of November

We are currently seeking donations for our raffles on the night, as well as food vendors, so if you are able to assist please contact the office. 

Applications forms are now available at the office for the children’s market stalls.  You may like to sell your own artwork, jewellery or other handmade creations.  But please leave the baking to the cake stall.  Get your thinking caps on about having your own stall at this year’s Spring Fair!

Fresh-fruit-salad

Fresh Fruit

Each week we request parent volunteers from a year level to help cut up fresh fruit and distribute it to classes. If you have time to spare on a Friday morning we would love your help, regardless of what year level your child is in. Younger siblings are more than welcome to join you and play with the toys as long as they remain supervised. Please sign in at the office and make your way to the staff room from 9am.

This Friday, 3rd August, we are asking for parent volunteers of Year 5 students to help cut up fruit.

Thank you to the Drysdale and Portarlington Community Bank Branches of the Bendigo Bank for sponsoring our school’s Fresh Fruit program for 2018.

Book Club

The Book Club catalogue for term 3 has been handed out to all children. All orders need to be returned by Monday 6th August. If you are ordering online there is a button that allows you to make it a GIFT, so when I receive the order I know not to send the order home with your child. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Miss Daffy in 1D.

Trivia Night – August 24

The DPS Trivia Night promises to be a fun night. There is only 1 table available so get in quickly. Tickets are $20 per person with tables of 8 people.

Each table can choose their own colour theme, and use it to come dressed up (eg, Men in Black, Rainbow Skittles, Lady in Red, Pink Lemonade, a Clockwork Orange etc). There’ll be a prize for the best-themed table.

BYO Food and Drink, and extra points awarded if your food matches your table’s theme.

There’ll be loads of great games in addition to the Trivia, with great prizes on offer, plus the opportunity to buy answers, and a Silent Auction running throughout the evening.

We are also looking for assistance with setting up for the evening. Please see the office if you’re able to help.

Camp Australia

It’s been another fun filled week at OSHC. The return of nice weather on Thursday and Friday meant that we could venture outside, and on Friday we celebrated the nice weather with a picnic on the playground, a very pleasant way to spend a Friday afternoon. Other popular activities have included playing with balloons, dominos, netball, soccer, basketball, football, downball, line tigi, coloured corners, skipping, perler beads and battleship.
