Drysdale Primary School

Education Week

This week we are celebrating Education Week with a range of creative activities.  There are also opportunities for current parents and those parents who live locally and are considering enrolling their children at Drysdale Primary School to visit and look around while the school is working.

We warmly welcome families to visit our classrooms in action on

Tuesday 21st May from 1.50 – 3.30 pm, and

Thursday 24th May from 9 – 10.40 am

We will also be running extra activities for students to enjoy throughout the week. See the attached document for more information on student activities.

Prep Enrolments for 2019

There are plenty of children who have already completed their enrolment forms to commence Prep at Drysdale Primary School 2019.  If you have a child who is currently at 4 year old Kinder or who turns six in 2019, now is the time to choose your school.  You are welcome to visit our open days at Drysdale Primary School this week on Tuesday and Thursday.  Our student leaders will be available to show parents round with the opportunity to meet the Principal team and ask any questions of us that were not answered during the tour.

School Uniform

Now that the weather has turned colder there are plenty of children wearing coats at recess and lunchtime.  Please can I ask that these are named so that they can be returned if they become separated from their owner.  Although the school’s colours are gold and brown, coats worn outside do not have to be one of these colours.  Our informal uniform allows children to wear sweat tops in either of these colours including brown Drysdale Hawks football tops or gold (yellow) Drysdale Hawks netball tops.  Children who are not wearing school uniform in class e.g. sweat shirts of different colours will be asked to put them in their bags.  If children are speaking in assembly or receiving an award they must wear our formal uniform details of which can be found in our School Uniform policy on the school’s website.  Children are asked to wear their house T-shirts for our Kids Matter Assemblies which are held in weeks 4 and 8 each term.  The next Kids Matter Assembly will be held on Monday June 4th.

Commemorative Bricks

The commemorative bricks that a number of families ordered have now arrived and are ready to be set in place as part of the school’s front path.  This will happen over the next few weeks.  We need to make sure that people can still reach the school’s office while the path is being laid.  Once we have established this first set of bricks, there will be further opportunities for families and individuals to purchase bricks for the next stage of the path.

Camp Australia – Holiday Program

We have had discussions with Camp Australia about running a school holiday program during the winter holiday break starting at the end of June.  This has been a gap for many working parents in Drysdale for the last few holidays.  So I am delighted that Camp Australia are going to run this program as a trial, based in the school’s hall during the next school holiday break.  You can find more details about this by following this link: Holiday Program

School Crossing and Scooter Safety

We have had a number of concerned community members contact us regarding students and parents when arriving at and leaving school. There has been an increasing number of people walking down Clifton Springs Road and crossing the road further down instead of using the supervised crossing in front of the school. Please remind your children to always use the school crossing.

It is also important that parents take extra care when driving and parking in the vicinity of school especially at school drop off and pick up. Following a number of significant concerns raised we have requested that police patrol at this time so that there is greater safety for our students and other members of the school community.

We also ask that students are respectful of others when riding scooters to school. The footpath needs to be shared with other members of the community so please move over to make room for everyone and don’t scoot too fast and risk hurting others.

There is still plenty of time to make a start if you haven’t already with the challenge open until 31st August. Just remember once you have finished reading your book to jump onto the Reading Challenge website and log your book in.

Well done to the first four people who completed the challenge; Evie (Yr 1), Isla (Yr 1), Mia (Yr 2) and Callum (Yr 6)! Click read more to view a photo of them.

Fresh Fruit Friday

Each week we request parent volunteers from a year level to help cut up fresh fruit and distribute it to classes. If you have time to spare on a Friday morning we would love your help, regardless of what year level your child is in. Younger siblings are more than welcome to join you and play with the toys as long as they remain supervised. Please sign in at the office and make your way to the staff room from 9am.

This Friday, 25th May, we are asking for parent volunteers of Year 5 students to help cut up fruit.

Thank you to the Drysdale and Portarlington Community Bank Branches of the Bendigo Bank for sponsoring our school’s Fresh Fruit program for 2018.
