Mother’s Day Stall 2018

On Thursday 10th May we will be holding our Mother’s Day stall. Each class will visit the stall in scheduled class times.

All gifts are priced at $5 this year. Each student can purchase one gift. If additional gifts are required then arrangements for this can be made prior to ensure we have enough stock.

Please send money in a clearly marked envelope with your child’s name to leave with their classroom teacher prior to this day.

Students who are absent on this day will have another opportunity to select a gift on Friday 11th of May at lunchtime.

School Photos

Our School photographs are being taken on Wednesday 2nd May 2018. Each student will have an individual photograph and a class photograph taken.

Please remember that for school photographs students need to wear our formal school uniform. This means that you cannot wear a Hawks top as this is only an option in our informal uniform.

Orders for individual and class photos can be made online up to 12th May 2018.

Family photos need to have been ordered and paid for before Tuesday 1st May 2018.

Swimming Lessons

The Year 5s and 6s have completed their Swimming Lessons program. Due to the closure of the Portarlington Pool, we have moved our lessons into Newtown at the Geelong Aquatic Centre. While this does mean a longer bus journey, we are very fortunate to have sourced a pool that we get exclusive use of and that can run 9 groups of lessons at one time. Overall, this means that the swimming program for the entire school can run over 6 weeks instead of 8, which then reduces the impact of swimming on the day to day operations of the school.

Fresh Fruit Friday

Each week we request parent volunteers from a year level to help cut up fresh fruit and distribute it to classes. If you have time to spare on a Friday morning we would love your help, regardless of what year level your child is in. Younger siblings are more than welcome to join you and play with the toys as long as they remain supervised. Please sign in at the office and make your way to the staff room from 9am.

This Friday, 4th May, we are asking for parent volunteers of Year 2 students to help cut up fruit.

Thank you to the Bendigo Bank for sponsoring our school’s fresh fruit.

Gardening Club

Last week the Gardening Club had a very exciting day, filling the vegie patch with lots of new plants. This was due to the very generous donation from Leopold Bunnings, who arrived overflowing with all sorts of plants and trees for our garden. A very special thank you to Bunnings, led by Karyn and Jama, who not only donated the plants but also took the time to join Gardening Club for the day. Many thanks must also go to Kate Lockhart and Fiona Love, two of our wonderful parents who also donated plants and their time to work with us. A reminder that all students are welcome to join Gardening Club, we meet every Friday lunch time in the vegie garden. See you there!

Sensory Room

This year we have been lucky enough to set up our very own Sensory Room. This is a space where we have a number of resources that support the development of students fine motor skills, emotional regulation and provide sensory experiences. Fiona Belcher has been volunteering her time and has worked alongside our amazing ES staff to provide brain breaks, calming sessions, fine motor skill sessions and gross motor skill sessions for a number of students across the school. We look forward to further developing this program throughout the year.
